New HR Manager here and I need to create a department budget. No idea where to even start, let alone end. This company is extremely unconventional with it's practices.. think startup that is not brand new.

This is tough but some things to start with. Start with your Headcount... try to think about the organizational design of your team and how much you need to execute your strategy. Then consider the cost associate to development and enable those people think Certifications, assessments etc. Then think about real estate cost if needed. Then professional fees to keep the org going, then travel expenses. Technology need for process, and reward/ incentives. Assuming your starting with no foundation I would build a cushion to float with. This is not holistic but something to start from. Good luck!

If your company uses ADP Comprehensive Services I believe they have a bundle of services they can offer like an additional consulting for HRBP, payroll, attorneys. The small business I work with is starting to move over to the system and they can provide help with stuff like this.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to say how grateful I am for this community. I have been an EA for the last 13 years and was let go in April of this year. After reading many posts here I’m embarrassed and pretty mad that I stayed for so long and was clearly undervalued. I supported 3 executives and worked around the clock and made under 40k. I was told it was because I didn’t have a degree 🙄 Anyway, I’ve dusted off my resume and I’m ready to find something better because clearly it’s out there.

I have a concern...most likely a moral one. I work in a small tech company. Some Developers have reached out to HR regarding other companies offering them double or more of their current Salary. Our HR has extenden counter offers to these developers and also an "Adendum" to their contract where they are now bound to the company for one year and have to provide 90 days notice. Never the less, the company is añso looking for their replacements. Is this a comun practice?
