Having a six month project right when you start is abnormal... A lot of people usually have beach time at the start. You're fine as long you weren't rolled off for performance reasons.
If you're on the bench longer than 2-3 weeks after coming off a 6 month project, I'd say Yes, some less than desirable perception was created based on your performance. Unless, your company has a large bench at the moment, then it's not you. If your bench is low, I'd start networking within to change the perception.
Thanks a lot for the thoughts folks. I keep hearing staffing is always low during holiday season so I hope something turns up early next year.
Holiday staffing is terrible because none of the clients ever want to start a new contract before going on vacation. A lot of my class were on the beach for months, some even after being on a project. It's all about what's selling and what the needs are. That said, it can never hurt to start networking and getting involved in internal work/social initiatives. Do you have a reason to feel you didn't perform well?
No not really. I got a "progressing to next level" rating but everyone else on my team immediately got staffed on other projects and I got the beach so that made me worry a bit. But I guess I should just focus on networking until the end of holiday season. Thanks!
