Ask A Legal Recruiter

New income partner, looking to leave my too-small firm. Options are medium firms where my rate would be similar or increase a little v big firm where my rate would increase a lot. My clients are more easily portable to medium firm, and I worry I’ll lose clients who can’t pay the big firm rates, even with phased-in rate increases. But the opportunities at the big firm are huge. I’m very marketable for them, and clients love me. Risky, but a big payoff if it works out. What would you do?

Need more info but I’m sure you’ve gamed it out in terms of clients/current rates/future rates at both potential firms and probable portability. It’s all an inexact science. Bottom line is are you willing to be on yourself? Sounds like you are and if worst case scenario “you’ll be ok”, it’s really not all that risky, is it? Since you’re not an equity partner and under fiduciary duty, you could have some hypothetical conversations with clients to try to gain more certainty if you’re still unsure.

I’m not the sole breadwinner at home, so if big firm ultimately doesn’t work out I’ll be okay.

Why are the Big 4 considered to be the best places to work and best consulting firms? Other than prestige and brand I don’t understand why they’re consistently rated and regarded so highly

One of my only complaints about consulting is the fact that we all work together in such close proximity that if one person gets sick...everyone else does too.

How does it work when you speak to the hiring manager ahead of application? I have been connected to the hiring manager via a friend and they want to chat. Does that mean I should get an interview when I actually apply via my friend? Thanks

I have an option to do an interview in person or via video conference. Video will let me do it earlier and will avert travel. I will need to wait another week for in person interview.

Exit options/Capital Markets: Are in-house exit options for CM attorney meaningfully better at firms that do more issuer side work? Considering leaving my v10 underwriter side heavy firm to go to a place that does more issuer side, probably somewhere like Wilson Sonsini or Fenwick. Thoughts on whether this would improve exit options?

Working as an audit staff in big 4 shared service centre. It's been 2 years. I really don't like what I do there, also it seems I won't like what I'll be doing there even after becoming senior. Thinking of leaving and joining industry once ACCA qualified. (One more paper left). But people around me discourage that growth potential and earnings in industry are way less compared to public accounting. I know that too but I still want to leave. I'd like to stick to core accounting. Thoughts pls
