New job let’s me pick my own laptop. Initially was thinking about a Mac, but after some research, thinking about one of the Microsoft surface laptops. Deciding between the surface laptop studio, surface x, or surface 8. Anyone have experience with any of these? Mostly just using for basic ms tools (ppt, excel, etc)

I had a client who gave me a Surface Laptop 4 and I really liked it. First client laptop that I’ve ever had where I had hoped they’d not ask for it back.

I picked a mac a few months back and have been regretting it tbh

Mac office is fine for anything like schoolwork or a non-consulting office environment, but for firms that place a lot of emphasis on heavy duty PowerPoint and excel, you’re just better off with windows.

I have a surface book 2 as my personal and it's a beast with a dedicated GPU, but also quite clunky. The smaller surface laptops are nice as well.

Surface is great and getting better. I have a Lenovo x1 yoga 6 as my work device and I like it more than the Mac Pro I used to have

Experiencing significantly more back pain since the last month. The work setup hasn’t changed. It’s a generic desk, footrest and ergonomic chair. Suggestions welcome on what I can add to my setup to make it more comfortable. I do take breaks and stretch once in two hours.

Food for thought: the US is actually one of the most racially conscious places I’ve ever lived. Not saying we don’t have a LONG way to go and that there isn’t immediate important work needed.
But the amount of allies this movement has is incredible. Keep in mind this is just my experience and may not represent others- however, in many of the other places I’ve lived or traveled to, racism is almost tacitly accepted. You wouldn’t have people calling out taxi drivers for ignorance for example

How do you judge when to leave a company for something better if you never burn out or hate where you are?
My specific situation: 4 years out of undergrad with Slalom, I like my job/coworkers and am making solid money but am starting to be qualified for interesting/lucrative exit ops. Not trying to grass-is-always-greener myself out of a good thing and I'm in no rush to leave, but how do I know when it's time to take advantage of other opportunities? Would love any advice from older folks!

I was laid off during Deloitte‘s mass layoff in July of last year. I have worked as an independent contractor since and projects haven’t been consistent at the client I’m working for. I’m looking to get back into a big firm and was seeing if anyone would be able to refer me or help get my foot in the door. I was a business analyst for 1.5 years at Deloitte and have several years of additional experience which I’d be more than happy to share.

I want to get my PhD, but all of the programs I want require a full time commitment for the first year. What are my options? Is a sabbatical an option? Or would I have to straight up resign? Utilization notwithstanding (I’m a GPS consultant)…is it possible to go part time? I completed my master’s full time while a full time Deloitte consultant. I know school can be done, but for PhDs they usually want you to also work as a TA. Additionally, I am not interested in online programs.
