New manager said last week he wants to replace me with someone less experienced and presumably cheaper. Of course being very “nice”, allowing me to take my time looking for external opportunities. My performance has always been exceed expectations. He recently became my manager. Today, he reassigned one of my projects without discussing with me. Was so annoyed. Luckily I received an offer last week from a new company that values my experience. After what happened today, I just wanted to vent.
Instead of giving notice, you could try to negotiate a severance package with a few months salary, then either relax before next gig or pocket the double paychecks.
As a benchmark, I’ve seen one month salary per year with company, so this could really add up if you’ve been there a long time.
I am sorry that you were treated this way. I echo the above - particularly about the severance. Get as much compensation as you can from them after you have a new job lined up so that you can turn a negative experience into a windfall.
Good luck! It is a crappy situation, but moving on to better opportunities is the best feeling in the world!
Also, do you have a discrimination claim against your manager? Maybe I’m reading into it, but it could be age-related bias? That’s a tough thing to wade into, so maybe run it by employment council before you make any decisions.
