OP asked about skills. In order to reach the partner goal, you’ll need:
1. Sales, as evidence by majority of responses
2. Team to deliver what gets sold - go to people that you can rely on to deliver without taking time away from your sales goals
3. Network of partners that trust you and know you can help them increase their sales based on your expertise

Based on the above, you should self-reflect or ask people who know you where you need to improve.
Sales
Management
Communication
Likability
Attention to detail
Financial management
Value prop - unique expertise
Etc

WTF kind of reply is that D1?!

No disrespect, just doesn’t really happen like that anymore

Expect 3-4 years as manager and 4-6 years at SM. Note that 7 years pace is if the stars align and you are one of the best.

like

3-5 is what SMs should be pulling in. If you want to make a name for yourself nobody's going to pay attention to lower than 8 figures. Pipeline should be 3x of sales

like

D4’s reply is pretty much spot on. I think the timeline and amount of sales required are very firm dependent so OP should seek this advice internally.

The key skill you lack as a typical manager that is necessary as SM and Partner is broader client management skills to build long term trusted relationships that go beyond a single engagement

Sales - bring in business of 20M every year for 5-7 years on your own without any other director or partners. Heck.. you might even make it in shorter time

20 M seems very very high four our company. Norm is 3-5M. A boutique.

Every company is different. There is no ‘set’ amount.

Thank you

Hi guys, I joined care ratings about 5 months back. However I had been asked to move from Research to ratings due to high work load.
However now the company is asking me to move back to research. It has been 5 months and I have been trying to adapt to this company. I feel like quitting this job already. It is frustrating. Any recommendations??

Dear Partners, Fellow fishes,

I have a productivity question.

I'm unable to plan tasks for the week, and I seem to have a LONG list of to-dos for Mondays. I am overly ambitious on Mondays and unable to plan out tasks till Friday. Everything's seem to be urgent and done on Monday.

Planner is always busy on Monday and EMPTY rest of the week. Inevitably I finish only 20% and rest spillover.

How do you approach planning? And not feel like everything needs to be done on Monday.

Partners, what's something you know now that you wish you knew when you were a Sr. Manager?

"Our people are our firm's greatest asset" yet the systems, processes, communications and fundamental business model indicates that "our people are fundamentally cash cows that must be minimally supported at lowest possible cost to maintain regulatory compliance and keep them working to generate generous margins for us partners." I feel the intent for the former (occasionally, from some partners) but the machine (processes, systems, policies) all reinforce the latter. How do you personally reconcile these two objectives/messages/realities? Towards which side of the spectrum do most partner-level conversations lean?
