New mom here. When did you start having date nights after baby was born?

Daughter is 5.5 years old. I’ll let you know when we restart date nights. TBD.

Same. First is 2.5 and we’ve been on one date. Now that the second is here I’m not sure when we’ll have a chance to be in a room alone together, much less go on regular dates.

like

We could probably make it happen now with our 2.5 year old but now I have an infant as well so I’ll add it to the 2023 bucket list 😅 It’s just so hard to mess up the bedtime routine. Could go after they go to bed but they have spidey senses and probably will wake up pissed if they realize I’m not in the house.

This!! The thought of messing up the bedtime routine makes me never want to leave the house again!

I think our first date night was about 1.5 months after birth. My baby never breastfed 🤱 (he was in the NICU and got hooked on bottles), so I could drink if I wanted to while my mom watched him. The first date was torture, we were gone maybe 2 hours and I couldn’t wait to get home and snuggle my little man. But if you have free childcare while you’re recovering from birth, you might as well enjoy yourself! Honestly, my son is 2 now and we very occasionally go on dates.

7 year old - we are thinking date nights when she starts college..?

like

A month or two for both kids! And I breastfed.

Day 5

19 month old and about to have a newborn. Haven’t yet. We have no family in the area so nothing built in. Also Covid made it undesirable. We also both work in professional services and feel the time with our kids is already so limited we don’t want to spend more time away from them.

Did one a couple weeks after when my mom was visiting to help with my first. But after that, took me 6 months to trust a babysitter. Started up faster after the 2nd because we already had a good steady roster of sitters. We’ve had a lot of success finding sitters on Nextdoor. Tested out a few before we found our go to sitter and have a couple backups.

Breastfed probably closer to 4 months. Don’t need to have a date night- sometimes going out to lunch or breakfast for an hour is just the break you and your spouse need and that was your not away too long

Earlier this week I was so busy I only pumped three times when I normally pump 6 times. Since then my milk supply fell drastically where I only pump 2 oz each session even if I pump 30 minutes when before I’d be pumping 3.5-5 oz in 15, and it’s been 4 days already. I know it’s silly but I feel sad thinking I won’t be able to feed my baby sufficiently with breastmilk anymore. I’ll supplement but I felt happy being able to provide full breastmilk before and feel a sense of loss now. Just venting

What is the federal parental leave policy? I’m new to government and having a baby soon. I know we’re given 12 weeks and have to sign an agreement to work 12 weeks after we return but are there other stipulations to a claw back period or how long we had to be at the agency first?

Inspired by the stroller question from yesterday: I’m having my first baby in December, and I don’t know what kind of stroller to get! A few things top of mind for me: I’m 4’10” so don’t want it to be huge and I want to be able to see over it, I would like it to work from newborn up to toddler, I’ll probably have a second within 2 years so want it to be convertible. Planning for everyday use in a small city. What are your recommendations?

Anyone dealt with your sibling getting divorced and the SIL fallout? My brother is going though a divorce and it is ugly. She is saying he is “unfit” (he is not). He has a 32 yr old who I am very close to, and a 12 yr old who is my goddaughter. His ex was my bff and now she says he is an unfit father and trying to take away his parental rights. I am stunned. It has fractured us beyond what I thought possible. Do I stay neutral for the nieces? Do I shout at the top of my lungs he is a good guy?

As a immigrant woman from middle class family, all my life, I felt the need to comprise everything, that I always get the third/fourth best choice because of money. My parents shamed me when I get anything good since I was a kid. So even now even I can afford some good things, I never get myself anything good, and I felt bad about it but still very penny pinching.

Deciding on a stroller as a FTM. Read a lot of the comments in this thread. I’ll be having a winter baby in a very snowy place and won’t be doing walking outside until baby is maybe 5 months. I’m not sure I’d need a bassinet. What stroller would you recommend? If Uppababy, is it still worth it even though the Bassinet isn’t really going to be used?

Am I crazy for thinking being a mom is harder than working in biglaw? I’m a mid level associate and FTM currently on maternity leave and the amount of sleeplessness over the past few weeks have convinced me my job is a piece of cake in comparison. I’m so overwhelmed.

The head of my practice said he wants to use his father’s vaccine card (same name) to go to bars and restaurants. It is a crime. I wish he didn’t tell me. Who do I report it to? The firm? The ethics committee? The police? I feel like I’ll lose my job if I report him, but not reporting it feels wrong.

Disclaimer: I do not find joy in the circumstances I am about to describe. Having said that, I am experiencing minor Schadenfreude in the “I told you so” sense. My ex-wife, who told my kids that the vaccine will turn people into zombies (srs), got the results of her PCR test yesterday and confirmed she has Covid. She has been laid up in bed since Thursday and is miserable. Meanwhile, I got a positive PCR result but am entirely asymptomatic. I do hope she makes a quick recovery.
