=INDEX (column to return a value from, MATCH (lookup value, column to look up against, 0))
Vlookup is kind of limited
Pro
Xlookup is the best
Unless your client isn’t using xlookup then you want to use index/match for backwards compatibility
Index Match - not because XLookup is worse (it’s a major improvement), but because:
1) Some clients may require you to do work in their environment, and will only have an older version of Excel (without XLookup)
2) You may be asked to take over someone else’s spreadsheet that uses Index-Match
3) Index-Match is less memory-intensive than VLookup on massive (for Excel) datasets, if for some reason you aren’t able or allowed to use proper SQL/Python/etc tools to analyze it
Xlookup is the new Index/Match
Index match is incredibly powerful. I would get used to those because there's so much you can do with it.
lol oof. Well vlookup takes two seconds to learn but is limited by only searching based on whatever is the first column you have selected. Index Match is much more powerful and not as limited. I recommend learn both. Takes you 20/30 minutes and two youtube videos
I just use index and match because it’s more versatile. Should probably teach myself to do xlookup though
