If you really just want one, you may want to look at VT as a total world index. People like VTI or VOO and VXUS because it lets you choose your international exposure.

One important point of clarification. VTI, VOO, VXUS, and VT are all ETFs, not mutual funds. Though they all have mutual fund equivalents. There are some distinctions, though for Vanguard’s ETFs and mutual funds that track the same thing, the difference is essentially if you can auto invest and if you can buy fractional shares.

like

If some reason I could only invest in one ETF it would be VT

like

You’d probably end up with a good run doing VTI and VXUS. Something like an 80/20 or 75/25 split is safe. If you have a long-term time horizon, don’t worry about timing the market in terms of pricing. Even if there is a dip, long-term it won’t matter too much

like

That is just my go to. Having some international exposure is good but more than 20/25 percent of the portfolio is a lot. Right now I’ve got a little below 20% in foreign assets but depending on what research you are looking at, could justify more or less

Hi folks, I need some advice.. I’ve been with my company 18+ years. Over covid I moved to FL from NYC but now my office is reopened 50%. They’ve been expecting me to commute weekly at my own expense. It’s now too expensive to look at resigning a lease in nyc. Should I expect them to pay for anything over 50% since that’s the requirement of in-office time? Or should I cut my loses and move on? The only issue is much less opportunity/pay in FL but I’m going broke for this company

When you make an offer on home what all cost you ask the seller. I am asking 3% closing, deep cleaning, 1 yr warranty on appliances. The closing in MD runs into 12-15k which is major expense so does asking seller to pay is normal practice. How long a builder installed carpet and appliances generally last assuming normal wear and tear. In 10-15 yr old house i believe most of these needs a new replacement

Possibly hot take: When you’re thinking about making a move to a different job, do not listen to people who have been at the same firm/job for a very long time (often the majority of their career). So tired of younger paralegals getting told why they have it sooo good and they shouldn’t seek better opportunities. In most cases, there is a better opportunity. With lots of support from coworkers, family and friends I left a toxic school environment mid fall. I struggled with not being in the classroom some days thinking I made the best call and cant wait to move up in my restaurant career then to feeling lost and like I was missing myself for 3 months. I then got another teaching position. The school atmosphere is lighter and feels happy over all. But each day, I dont think the true joy I had before my last school is still there.
