A few options that are not as flashy:
JLC: reverso or master control
IWC: Portugieser or mark 18
Zenith: el Primero or chronomaster sport or defy
Pro
Up to 6k: Omega Seamaster 300
Up to 12k: Rolex Explorer 1 39mm
Up to 16k: Patek Calatrava (3923, 5196, etc.)
Remove the seamaster for a speedy and this is the way
From what you described, I’d actually go with Cartier. Dressy, but somewhat understated. Personally, I love my GMT Master II and even the sea dweller, but if I wanted a statement without being too flashy, I’d go with a Cartier Santos. Just my opinion though, for your price point.
And my Cartier Tank Francaise is my go-to dress watch, but the Santos is better for everyday dress/fun wear. Full disclosure: I don’t have a Santos (yet) but it is on my list, especially given how inflated other options seem to be these days.
Upto 6K - Tudor black bay 58, omega seamaster
6K to 12K - Rolex GMT Master II
12K to 16K - JLC master control
In what world is a Hublot not flashy?
Rising Star
For a one watch collection that can do anything, why not go with the Rolex Explorer? It’s easier to get than the gmt and is more versatile than any of the more dressy options.
Dial/bezel color is big. For a single watch you want versatile. I love my Cermit and wear it daily, but green doesn’t always go with everything… At least that’s the excuse I tell myself to justify buying another
Thanks everyone for the recommendations, I have narrowed down to few choices.
Along the way, I can across Rolex Milgauss Oyster with green sapphire and z-blue dial. Love the look but apparently reviews are mixed (some calling it ugly/failure/…)
What are your thoughts?
