It’s time for me to move on from my back office/CBS job at EY. I’ve been able to get through to recruiter and hiring manager screening round with FAANG employers and some tech companies but never beyond that. How can I differentiate myself when I’m probably also up against our client facing colleagues in consulting. I have about 12 years experience (7 at EY doing the same thing).

Use your PM! Have them set up a check in with you and the junior to review work. I’ve found that this helps with making deadlines more formal and it sets up how the review should go (YOU reviewing THEIR work).
Set a deadline with clear deliverables
“I need five lines by tomorrow”
“Can you show me a few sketches by eod?"
Sit down with them to talk about expectations. Ask what they thought they were. Tell him/her your expectations
Definitely talk to him/her and let them know they need to put in more work. I’ve seen this happen too many times where certain members of the team under-deliver and fly under the radar. Not fair to the rest of the team.
Yup, get the PM to act as the conduit. I’ve had this before... it’s pretty disrespectful. If it gets too painful and if you’re on good terms with your GCD get him/her to strike the fear of God into them.
