New to travel life. Once you have SPG/Marriott status, do you have to ask for a room upgrade, or are they automatic when available?

There is also the unpublished Platinum Premier Elite status. 125 nights a year! I find if I mobile check in they actually take the time to upgrade me more often. Also if you are regular somewhere then make good friends with the front desk staff, including knowing their names so you greet them by it. Can't tell you much they love it when you walk in and from 10 feet away go: Good evening John how was your weekend? Or remember a previous conversation about their nephew coming to visit and ask about it!!!!!

Finally just ask for it and don't be shy but accepting of what they have.

One thing to remember is that status - even Platinum or Ambassador is going to be fairly common. Depending upon what location you're traveling to, you may get an upgrade very rarely. Like 2/3 times a year rarely.

Thanks all!!

Since lot of candidates are in the pool, sadly it would take me nearly 12 to 18 months to get my Canadian PR. Can some one give me leads of job opening which is available back there in Canada to start my career.
