How much money do you have left over after you pay all of your expenses and tax? After taxes and rent, healthcare, 401k, and food, I have about 12-14k left over at the end of the year. Is this low? Should I be saving more?
Is it a bad look as a senior associate (on the path to manager within a year) to be driving an expensive car like a C7 or C8 corvette that is $70k+? I don’t think it is and here’s my rationale. I’m making over 6 figures, maxing out my 401k and IRA accounts with extra $ going to a brokerage account, I have a 3BR 1300 sq foot home with finished basement and garage for $170k. My two loans are only $240k combined. Heck most people spend more on a house alone. Work remote so vette isn’t daily driver.
About the well being subsidy: if i buy something that does not qualify under the reimbursement program but get the gst bill in the name of the product that is reimbursable, will that create an issue? Please tell me. Thanks in advance.
What do you like about healthcare consulting?
EY 🐠, your winter/summer breaks say “use 3 days of vacation or personal days”. So for winter break Dec 25-Jan 1, do you have off that entire break, but just have to use 3 days of PTO and charge the rest to Holiday? Am I reading this right? Also I see $60/month reimbursement for cell phones, does this mean if your phone bill ever goes over $60/month you’re on the hook for the difference?
Currently interviewing with Apple, but I came across a the same exact role at Facebook (Meta) which I’ve applied. How does the referral process work? Is it too late for me to get a referral? I’ve contacted a few recruiters via LinkedIn but no luck this far. Thank you for your help 🙂
How valuable are the salary insights that recruiters can provide? I’m just starting to apply to consulting and startup roles. I could easily apply to some of them myself, but I don’t have a good feel for the pay because these are new/smaller companies.

For those of you in the technical recruiting space, how did you first get started? I've been in HR for nearly 6 years, and recruitment for 3. I've mainly worked in health care and accounting, but have not hired for tech roles before. I would really love to pivot my career toward this type of recruitment. Any advice on how to do so? Job postings for this kind of work are intimidating since everyone seems to want 2-3 yrs of experience already.
If I am in “tech consulting” but only take on ERP implementations or PMO type projects, do I have the same exit opportunities as traditional management/strategy consultants? Am I regarded the same in terms of “prestige” as well?
With the travel restrictions going on, is it ok now for h1b holders if we travel to the UK and come back? Thinking of working from there from June-August at my bf’s place.
Anyone looking for computer science college interns? My brother is looking for an entry level position to learn, and he’ll have the intro programming classes done by this summer.
It just feels like I can’t have anything. I already don’t have many friends, family etc. Work is my main thing and I do generally enjoy it but it’s hard to get/stay motivated when I’m this isolated/depressed. I’m well-regarded but also not seen as the best/promotion material, at least yet. Just got scolded and it is so disheartening when I need to get myself motivated to work a ton this weekend regardless. Just venting, but happy to hear thoughts.

If the stock market were to tank, incl. all these ridiculous tech valuations, how do you guys think compensation packages will move in competitive fields such as IBD, consulting, big tech? Based on current environments, I’ve two hypotheses: 1. Comp packages in competitive fields will continue strongly due to: a. less supply of top talent (great resignation), b. less willingness to work demanding jobs (push for wlb), and c. Rising living costs - inflation 2. Comp packages will get readjusted…
