Tbh, it's not horrible.
I just stay inside. Food delivery keeps coming..it's kinda empty outside. It it's not like the plague bothers me indoors or there's violence or anything. Just, quiet.
Doctors on many platforms have told about their first hand accounts. Scary things happening within ERs. Someone healthy not in healthcare wouldn't really see
Prepare for another month + maybe 2 of the same. Don’t go anywhere, sanitize all the things, and I wish you good health!

We’re already on shelter in place until June 10 in VA (I’m 5 miles from DC line). It’s going to be a long while.
If you have the privilege of working from home then yes it's not that bad. But some friends reported closed supermarkets today (heard that theyre low on new shipments), long lines for popular supermarkets still open, hospitals beyond overwhelmed and low on PPE, refrigerator trucks to store all the dead bodies, pop up hospitals at the convention center and Central Park, and they sent out an emergency alert text trying to draft volunteer healthcare workers. I hear ambulances at least 2-3x an hour... It is absolutely dreadful.
I live in Queens, the hardest hit borough. Just because it's quiet on your corner, I would not doubt what is happening to this city.
Friend sent this photo he took himself when out walking his dog. This is right near the Empire State building, k-town area last Friday night at 11:30pm. Usually filled with ppl heading to bars and restaurants. Empty.
It’s bad. If you’re looking to go to grocery stores, people are not respecting social distancing. It took my friend 2 weeks to buy meat because stores were all out. Amazon prime, instacart, fresh direct all time slots booked. Have to keep refreshing and maybe get lucky once a week. Maybe. My parents live in queens .. we can’t get food delivered to them. Look if you’re young, you’re likely just bored and ordering in. If you’re older, it’s scary as f***.
Honestly the chicken panic is the new toilet paper panic now. We have gone to the Costco’s on LI and it’s chaos in there. People trying to load two carts of items, limitations on the quantity of each item you can buy.

NYC is (hopefully) the canary in the coal mine. I don’t think the “weeks behind” analysis is as relevant as it was when comparing the US to say Italy or Spain.

Let’s not beat this drum too loudly, or it will be just as bad elsewhere
It’s pretty bad man, I’m not going to lie to you.
I think the truth is important. There is an entire new (or enhanced) DOA devision of the NYPD dedicated to picking up dead bodies. It’s pretty bad.
As workers with the privilege to WFH, our biggest impact is decreased inefficiencies due to lack of screens, children or family at home, no travel etc. My team and I joke about being bored at home but we are lucky. The issue is with hospitals itself. I have family living with me who are hospital staff in NYC, rampant reuse of masks, 10 patients per nurse, lack of usual medical protocol. The staff are overworked and there’s no end in sight. I live on a busy road and traffic has significantly decreased, although more people are taking time to walk with a good distance between each other.Situation is not the best but all we can do is support to the best or our ability.
I think we are beginning to see differences with NYC itself; Manhattan seems much less affected than Queens both in terms of infection rates or availability of groceries, food etc. On the other hand NYC hospitals are more overrun and seeing the tents in Central Park is disturbing. To your point about comparison, I’d say it would depend on whether you are in DC or MD or VA.
P1 calm your nerves before you have an aneurism. Also, for you to say it’s because their poor is truly skipping a step and actually quite disgusting to even say. Maybe it would be more appropriate to say the words “commuter town”. Also raised in NYC my whole life ... luckily had a chance to live in all boroughs ! Good luck to ya my friend. Stay safe .. and be happy ✌🏽
I'm in DC and from everything I have read, I am very cautiously optimistic that DC might come out as an example of how implementing these measures (pretty early) works to really flatten the curve. I don't want to jinx ourselves, but I haven't seen anything that indicates we will be anywhere near NY levels even at our peak.

There are also about 18,000,000 more people in NYC compared to DC
Sounds rough. Are you still able to get grocery deliveries?
I refreshed 4 delivery apps for hours, I was able to get delivery in 2.5 weeks

When did D.C. implement the stay at home order? We’ve been on it for 3 plus week here in California

Because people throw bonfire parties for 60 friends or use state parks to have bbq’s🤦🏻♀️ most of us have been home for a while.
The line for Trader Joe’s in my old neighborhood was 1.5 hours long. It’s bad

The lines our here in California go by quickly they only allow a certain amount in at a time
Been fine for me. I’ve been avoiding big grocery stores but the bodega and neighborhood place near me are fully in stock and not crowded and I’ve had an easy time getting all the ingredients we need to cook. Delivery food still running although we cut back to restrict exposure - plenty of options at all price points. There’s a bunch of new delivery grocery options - haven’t been able to get fresh direct for a few weeks but have been able to find good substitutes. So all in all - fine from a staying fed perspective. And Astor wines is still open which Is very clutch.
