Single stocks are just taking uncompensated risk. Stay diversified.
Would be silly to buy AMZN and cap weighted sp500, considering it's a3% allocation
1k in AMZN and 4k in S&P. Anything can happen, but S&P is always a bit safer than individual stocks... So let them experiment with a bit of both to find their personal risk tolerance.
The % split is a personal choice at the end of the day. I'd never recommend putting 25% in a speculative startup that's pre revenue, but Amazon does have some semblance of stability.
If the friend is considering putting it all in AMZN, I think their risk tolerance would be happy (and satisfied) with a 75/25 split.
How do you know interest rates are going to normalize? It's likely that interest rates are going to stay above 5% for at least 5 years. Inflation is a very sticky problem.
