Give your day rate and say your hourly kicks in at 8pm and on weekends. Gives them a generous little buffer but protects you from stupid hours. This is why you go freelance after all.
Thank you! This was my gut instinct, just nice to have a second opinion
Pick a day rate that covers you for 12 hours including weekend work and don’t come off as a nit picker on $$$. Don’t price yourself out of work.
Good advice. I don’t think their budget is that high but I like this approach for future jobs
Hahaha. Welcome to freelance. A day is 0 to 24 hours on a day rate. You can try to buck the system but you won’t get hired back if you’re difficult. Nights and weekends are part of the deal. Just make sure you get paid for every “day” you work. Charge a decent rate. I charge $1200 per day in LA.
Typical day rate in Canada for a senior producer $600...kill me now. Most agencies try to put you on a weekly of $2500-$3000. Hate that. Project basis is best way to go I find.
Just make sure your day rate covers for potential OT. That’s why we charge what we charge—don’t reveal your hand
Day rate is normal for production but I start by saying it’s based on a 10 hour day or maybe 8 hours depending on the situation, and then OT after that. They may not go for it, which is a sign that they may expect long hours.
I take the total number of hours worked and divide by 8 hours to get the number of days. Don’t give them anything for free
Agree with everyone here- it’s part of doing business and you must make sure your day rate covers the hours.
