I want to be a good dad more than anything, although I care a lot about my career too. I believe we have to maintain our personalities, goals, hobbies as individuals even though we carry this ultimate responsibility of parenthood. Sometimes these alternative objectives can come into conflict. One of my greatest fears is being the stereotypical shitty dad, “sorry son I can’t come to your game tonight daddy’s got to work....” I feel even more pressure because I think generations of bad fathers have set a societal bias/precedent (don’t get me started, as someone who’s been through an extensive custody battle). At the end of the day, I want my leaders as well as my team to know that family comes first in my mind. If I have a school play or a sporting event or whatever I need to get to at home, I will NOT miss that, you will NOT get me out of town regardless what the client or anyone else wants. I have done my sincere, absolute best over the years, and although I have given into pressure a time or 2, overall I think my kids know they can count on me to be present when it counts, and that is very important to me. I want people to see that parenting is not just a woman’s role, children need their fathers too and we bear the same great duty/responsibility to raise them. This may sound kind of silly, I admit I have a bit of a complex around this due to aforementioned history with custody and family law issues regarding my oldest son.

I love this! A lot of the conversation roles around gender focus on women and I agree that it's incredibly important to have this conversation about men and fatherhood too.

Anybody who has felt maxed out in recruitment? What do you do? Do you try other industries first but stay in recruitment or do you try to change positions with more diversity of tasks? I now feel that everything I do is the same old, and although they say I am doing a good job, it is also a constant stress daily for applicants not showing up, failing pre-employment requirements, etc and I wonder if this is also present in other areas of HR.

I cannot stand when the men on my team start calling eachother "dude" and "bro". Am I crazy or are these slight microaggressions? It feels like a flaunt of masculinity and makes me uncomfortable as a female in the same conversation.

Has anyone else's firms essentially dropped their DEI programming? After last summer, we had a lot of virtual meetings with speakers and awareness weeks for various affinity groups. The diversity committee also had meetings planned. The awareness weeks scheduled for 2021 summer, fall, and winter never happened, and the diversity committee meetings keep getting canceled and never rescheduled.
