Nightmare situation today at my first Zoom trial. On Friday, the court said trial would begin at 1:30 PM on Monday. We informed our clients and all our witnesses to be ready at that time. Never got a Zoom link, figured it would show up Monday morning. At 9:01 AM on Monday, we get an email saying, among other things, “Defense counsel has not appeared for trial.” Then, another email came immediately after that, with a Zoom link included. It’s just me and the paralegal in the office at this point.

The partner/lead atty on the case hasn’t even shown up yet. So we’re all scrambling to log in and get our case ready when we thought we had all morning to finish preparing. We informed the Court of the mistake but, when the partner finally showed about 10 mins later, they agreed to just go ahead with the trial rather than wait til 1:30. So I gave a very shaky opening statement. It was like one of those bad dreams where you’re late for an important test or class... and it was happening in real life. Anyway, not looking for advice or anything, just venting after a morning full of minor heart attacks. Be prepared, early!

Since your story does not involve a cat filter or you informing the court that you are in fact not a cat, I do not think that it went as bad as it could. #silverlining

Touché. 😅

Wait so why was the other side there if the court said trial started at 1:30

Good question. Apparently they got a zoom link on Friday that said “9 am Monday,” and we did not.

What kind of trial? If you were planning on finishing prep day of, sounds like a small claim.

Defending against a 100k creditor’s claim. But as I said in response to a comment above, we were ready last week and then we got an SJ ruling on Friday that had us scrambling at the last minute to make changes. Or maybe it was just me who was scrambling, because this is only the second trial I’ve been involved in and have no idea what I’m doing. 🙃

How’s it going?

Well, at least we started on time on the second day! Despite the initial hiccups, I kind of enjoyed doing a trial over Zoom. Thanks for checking in!

Generally curious how many companies offer phone reimbursement? My last gig did not but the current one does. I’m going to start business school in September and I want to get a feel for some offices and hopefully referrals. If COVID wasn’t a thing, I’d set up a trip, reach out to school alums on LinkedIn, and try to set up a lunch. Should I just try and set up a zoom call instead? If feels less personal, but if that’s the best that can happen, I guess it’s fine.

I did a tech sales bootcamp. Im just worried about what questions he will ask me? Im thinking more technical in terms of sales processes and even sales funnels? Any thoughts?

Dear Slack PM,

Please create a delayed send option. Sometimes ppl work late or on the weekend to catch up and want to share something with someone. But I don't want them to feel the need to respond off hours, or forget by Monday morning. I know they can turn off their notifications, but if they haven't then I'm stuck in a pickle. So instead of me saving it to notes and then forgetting to ask till Tuesday or so, just give me the option to delay send on a Saturday afternoon.

Thanks bye 🙂
