No banking experience. Is VC a lot easier to break into post mba on west coast vs east?

Five easy steps to get into VC:
1) start a disruptive tech company
2) go to Lafayette Park in SF and shake a tree
3) Pitch your firm to the VC investor that falls out of the tree in step #2
4) sell your disruptive tech company to Google, Facebook, Cisco, or whomever
5) Go climb a tree in Lafayette Park

Sure, I’ll try to find it tomorrow

VC is hard enough to break into post mba even with banking experience. Buyside experience is the natural progression into VC. That said, all the top VCs you hear about in the news are on Sand Hill Road in the Bay Area - ridiculously hard forms to join; and while the ones in NY may not be stuffed full of Stanford MBAs, there’s fewer of them. Look at other cities entirely.

C1- you mean smaller cities (eg Chicago/Boston/LA)?

Startup hubs usually differ from what we traditionally consider cities with built up industries. After SF/NY, Id recommend Boston, LA, Austin, Denver/Boulder, Salt Lake City. I actually have a list of accredited VCs sitting around somewhere (used to work at several startups before consulting). Let me know if you want to see that!

Hey C1, sorry for the bump but did you ever find that list? I would love to see it as well

C1 could you post a link to that list please??

🐠 help me out - new job and am trying to make sure I’m fully understanding my research on state income tax: My new role is aligned to the California office and I’ll move there later this year. Then, when I move to California, I will resubmit my Cali W4 to adjust for my usual allowances and stop paying Virginia income tax. Sound right?
