One of the reasons they hired you out of PwC is because they know you are a hard worker. I say suck it up for a while, prove yourself, and you’d be going into that 10 month promo conversation with a bag of leverage. Right now they’ll see it as you’re just whining.
I’m in a similar position but disagree with calling it whining when you express your interest. It would be more helpful to ensure your recognitions are being noted, you have an adequate team and this jump is being documented so your promotion is $$!
What they are likely looking for is if you can sustain the progress and continue to show trajectory. Use this 10 months to build your arsenal of how you’ve added value above and beyond. Industry is risk averse so this isn’t uncommon. I’d discuss with the CEO their expectations for that next level, what they see as success and ironclad proof of competency at that next level. And let them know how much you’ve accomplished and are excited to continue to grow and build the firm. Show it’s not just about you claiming title but also building up them as well. No doubt you will crush it. Good luck!!
It’s too early to change comp.. but promo is 10 months away... My husband (from Big 4) said the same thing... however, this bait and switch has me resentful.. having a sit down with CEO next week.. what do I say?
Never back down from responsibility. It is a blessing. However, even I do not take people seriously when within the thirst few months they ask for a raise. It just seems pediatric. No offense. If you are not placed in a difficult position we will never know what you are capable of and asking for money to compensate so early is unprofessional. There’s a time for negotiation and that’s at your review or whatever they call it. When leaders ask for more responsibility always ask for the adequate resources for it. Then always establish life work balance in any position you’re in I work hard but I play hard too. No compromise. If you can find someone more committed and efficient that’s a challenge I like to have but delivering results and having a life are my cardinal rules
