I can’t work for a firm that doesn’t understand what normal business hours are. Yes the job is atypical in the sense that you sometimes need to deal with something during off hours, but work life balance is extremely important.

After 4 weeks of 60-65 hour timesheets, I am at my wits end. I tried to look for other opportunities, but I have essentially ghosted 3 recruiters and 1 second round interview. I am embarrassed. I don’t even want to leave bc I love my department. Should I drastically reduce the quality of my work and get my life back? Will it bite me in the ass? Or will it send the right message?

As the technology is new to me and Due to more work pressure and strict project timeline i feel low and nervous all the time. i feel I'm dumb not able to solve simple problem. Also not getting the proper support from lead/manager, any task assigned to me, i had to do my own. Even if you ask for any help from any team members you need to ask lead before that. Does anyone work at a firm that does not offer year-end bonuses? I’m currently at a 25-50 person firm in a major market (CA) that mostly operates on big contingency cases. There were firm-wide paycuts at the beginning of Covid (still in effect). I’ve billed in excess of 2,000 hours and am feeling both cheated and a real lack of motivation.

Anyone else experience anything like this? Recommendations (other than leaving)?

3rd year associate looking to make a move after being at my firm for 2 years. I am in ID and unfortunately have not had much experience with dispositive motion practice and I do not have any cases that will see motion practice for quite some time. The bulk of my writing are status reports to the carrier with minimal legal analysis. I’ve done one mediation. What are some examples of writing samples that firms are looking for? How can I turn this negative into a positive? TIA!

Had my annual review earlier today and I’m not happy with the raise and bonus offered. Aside from the managing partner, there were several other non-equity partners in the room and I didn’t feel comfortable negotiating in front of everyone. I’d rather speak to the managing partner alone as he’s the only one who has the ability to make decisions. I’ll have to wait until Monday to do it in-person but wondering if I should set up a call between now and Monday to discuss? Would Monday be too late?

To experienced attorneys at large employers, has anyone tried starting a small side practice in a different area of law (wills & trusts, for example) and succeeded in building it out over time? Notwithstanding my present employer being happy/okay with this, curious as to the feasibility when I have no real experience in the practice area.
Would like a separate law-related side hustle to potentially build into my full time work down the road. Thanks.
