Your CC should have prepped you. For MC and TC it was made very clear that Mid-year was not a full promotion cycle. It was only to be used very selectively as an appeals process for a few borderline resources from last year.
From your post, it would seem like you should be on that list. You need to ask your CC if you are being discussed.
Preach, A6. The new performance achievement process focuses entirely on what's next for the individual, and I am thrilled that we ended the laddering dick measuring that we used to do. It was a great experience for me as a supervisor, as a CC, and as someone getting feedback. And we promoted a TON of people. 4 of my 5 counselees got promoted.
Yeah they've been extremely strict about A->C jumps. Also you saying that you've been performing at C2 (🙄) tells me you are overestimating yourself
You want to quit 5 feet before the finish line?
I recommend a serious bitch session w your friends and then get back to working on that promotion
OP - you should be asking your leadership what you need to do / demonstrate / work on in order to earn their support for your promotion. Just telling them you want to be promoted is not the right way to drive that convo
Thanks everyone. You are all right- My messaging on myself is a little bit... strong. Although I'm repeating what leadership has told me, now that I step outside and say it to others, I realize that it sounds like I have an inflated sense of self-worth and that I may not be the only one leadership says these things to. Thanks everyone for talking me off the ledge. I was a little frustrated,l
OP, you are feeling what we have all felt about ACN at one time or another, so don't feel bad. There are two ACNs: Macro ACN and Micro ACN. Micro ACN is your project, your CC, your start group, and your core network of friends. These are the people who will support you, take care of you, and the reason most of us stick around. Macro ACN is a huge, unwieldy beast, and you will get screwed sooner or later. It's not out of malice or by design, it's a function of running a giant, rapidly growing and complex organization.
If the people who you work with respect you, and if you are doing the work you want for a good salary, then a title is really just for ego.
Midyear decisions aren't being made till May 15th and effective June 1st. Digital is in the mix though focus is on lower level Analyst / Consultant promos. With few exceptions at higher levels.
Correct. Except it looks like no mid Years will be made this year.
A2, you know we didn't ladder last year, right?!
A8 & A7: I started summer 2015 at L11. Winter 2016 I began having conversations with senior leadership about what I should be doing to hit L10. By Sprint 2016 (around time midyears were announced), senior leadership agreed I was on ready to be promoted to L10 by Summer 2016. Then, midyears were canceled after they were announced, so no midyears. Thereafter, I asked senior leadership if they would support me moving straight from L11 to L9 winter 2016. They said yes, if I did x y z. I performed at L9 level for 9 months, and senior leadership agreed and supported my jump to L9 winter 2016; but senior leadership told me they were not allowed by HR to promote me 2 levels. I was told I had support to be promoted during mid years, summer 2017. Now, it looks like ACN will NOT be holding midyears, meaning I won't be up for L9 until winter 2017. I feel strung along, and I feel like I'm performing at a level substantially above my peers. But I'm no longer motivated to output excellent work. So now I'm exploring options outside Accenture, because I feel Accenture isn't promoting me quickly enough for me to realize my potential. Before I have his conversation with senior leadership, I'd like everyone's feedback on whether my feelings are justified. I don't have a lot of visibility into what goes on behind the scenes, so I am happy and willing to change my opinion in the precedes of new information. I love Accenture and don't want to leave, but I think I'd be doing myself a disservice if I didn't leave at this point.
@OP you do realize that the normal amount of time to go from analyst to consultant is between 2 and 3 full performance cycles, right? If you started in summer 2015 then that means your second full performance year is this year since the performance year ends in August. Progressing one level each year is not slow by any definition.
Two years from 11 to 9 is right at the early point for promo. Midyears happen every year, it's just up to the DTE on how and who they will promote. Affordability plays a key factor.
I would say your strategy should be to engage your supervisor, CC, and account leadership and ask what you need to be doing to showcase readiness for promo, and what the path looks like, inquire about midyear eligibility and whether they think you can be ready in time for that conversation. I know for a fact that Digital is doing midyears, one of my resources is in the mix for them, though in our leadership calls, we are being very selective on who is considered.
A6, great advice! Thank you very much!
Yeah good point A10! OP, just keep in mind when you say you're significantly outperforming your peers that we are always putting people in roles "above their level" for the sake of margin, but it doesn't always mean they do the same quality work as someone at the level the role was originally designed for. Often they require more air cover or for some of the work to be covered by other people. You're probably still doing a kickass job, but just something to keep in mind when you try to "level" yourself.
In the old laddering system it was all but impossible to get promoted if you weren't already in a role above level.
There's lots of good discussion in this thread. If you really like Accenture, you are doing good work, and building good relationships with your leadership (sounds like all of those are true), then I would recommend sticking it out. Have seen many people in your situation have quick (2 year) promos to manager after the consultant promo. You (presumably) have 30+ years of working life ahead of you, don't get hung up on this promo cycle, these things tend to work themselves out over time if you are patient and have a positive attitude.
Are there raises this year?
My cc told me I'd be promoted last year during mid Years. I was in digital, and Accenture official communications went out saying there would be mid years. Then, they cancelled midyears. Next, they said I'd skip a step do go from analyst to consultant since I had been performing at consultant level for several months. Instead, I got SA and standard raise/bonus. Now, looks like there will be no mid Years for digital, once again. I have support from multiple MDs, SMs, and direct managers to be promoted. In my mind, this is the third strike in a row, and I don't feel comfortable building my career somewhere that can't promote me as fast as I deserve to be promoted. Is there something I'm missing here? I need someone to talk me off the ledge.
I've been told "I would be taken care of". I've raised the issue appropriately and have voiced my desire to be promoted for over a year.
