Nobody ever told me Litera existed or that our firm had it. I’m a recent lateral. My firm simply told me to run redlines, and I found the app on my own. I stumbled across it my first week working at the firm. I tried using our version to compare excel sheets, and it wouldn’t do it. I have been manually comparing Excel sheets for the past 2 months, only to realize there’s a separate Litera app for comparing spreadsheets. Please learn from my pain 😭

Even if nobody told you… use google? Doc services to do it for you, which is much cheaper for the client?…. IT, when litera wasn’t working, just to confirm it wasn’t something they could fix?… Ask another associate what they do? Idk what’s more painful, lack of common sense or the absurd bills you’ve been charging clients for comparing excels manually.

OP, you did something great. You saw that a task you were doing was taking too long and found a more effective way of getting it done and then shared so that others won't have to go through the same thing. Kudos to you.

I have litera but didn’t know bout the excel comparison

I didn't know this either. I need to check this out for sure.

Why am I not surprised lol - somehow people think manual is better than just using a tool, and it's lame. Thanks for sharing the tip, hope others find it useful as well! There's almost always a better solution out there

Thank you for sharing this tip. I'm sure people in your office were happy to learn about this too as I'm sure some of them were unaware of this tool.

Oh boy. I'm definitely sharing this with my colleagues. Imagine the amount of time you can save by using latera. Thank you for sharing this tip here, OP!

In desperate need of referrals/recommendations for a reverse recruiter or headhunters that work for job seekers rather than employers. I’ve been job searching and interviewing for 2 years now and I can’t take it anymore! I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, the most it’s taken in the past was 5 months to get a job. I’ve spent money on resume services and a career coach so I’ve also invested money that’s landed me nowhere. I can’t think of anything else to try 😔

Received a verbal job offer on Tues. $5k short of what I had said was my desired range but still up from my current salary. We set up a call for Thurs to discuss further. On Wed they sent me all benefits info. Thursday on the call I asked if we could either increase moving stipend or get closer to my desired salary. They said no, and I asked them to send over written offer and I would let them know by Fri. They then email they are no longer offering me the position and repost it the next day:

Anyone else have issues with radiator noise? I live in a large doorman building and am frequently awake all night due to loud knocking from the radiator, even when the bedroom unit is off. I’ve had bldg maintenance out twice; they spend an hour tinkering with it and nothing changes. I’m willing to hire my own plumber- just want to know if this is a problem that can likely be fixed short of major HVAC work. It’s so bad that I’m considering moving even though I love this apt ☹️

Serious billing question - if during the course of the day, you first receive an email from Client A at say 11:10am and you read it, you then respond to it at 12:20pm. You get another email at 2pm from Client A and respond immediately. The next email comes in at 4pm, you read it and respond only at 4:30pm. None of the email responses take more than 3-5mins. You are working on matters for other clients at all other times during the day. How much are you billing for Client A?

Hi all! I’m looking to transition to a mid-sized/big law firm in NYC upon completion of my bankruptcy clerkship in Seattle in three months. New York barred and interested in bankruptcy/restructuring work. Graduated from Emory with honors. Anyone know of firms looking to hire in the near future? Any recommendations/tips/advice on how best to approach the process. I’ve never actually worked for a firm in the past, so I’m a bit foreign in how best to attract the larger firms. Thanks!

Kind of niche question here but under NY CPLR, if a plaintiff files a MTD/MSJ, and then the defendants file opposition papers containing information that the court had previously ordered to be kept under seal, would you a) file a reply asking to seal/strike the opposition papers or b) file a separate OTSC since you’re now seeking additional relief not sought in the original motion?
