I used to get 5 floating holidays on January 1, 3 discretionary PTOs converted from sick hours, and accrue 1.5 days per month. It was a bit tougher to get the time approved the first year but much easier after my anniversary for whatever reason. I used to be asked to request the time three months out during that first year. It became much more laxed and I would email the controller maybe a week or less before I needed the time off. But it all depends on who you report to. I used to report to the Assistant Controller and would be asked to basically run it by everyone in the department for scheduling conflicts before I could get it approved. A total hassle. Once I started reporting directly to the controller things changed.

like

It was. The assistant manager was very special with making decisions. Was always over careful with not stepping on anyone's toes, so he'd need to orchestrate things before giving the go ahead. And sometimes I wouldn't find out about having the time approved until a week from the first day I asked off.

If anyone’s curious, I get ~24 days pto, + holidays, during non peak seasons (half the year) it’s extremely easy to take, peak seasons it’s nearly impossible.

like

Peak season = no pto. Outside of that it's go fuck your self peace out. Call me if you want me to get something done in 2 weeks.

I’m in industry and have 24 days PTO plus 10 holidays. Not difficult at all to take 1 or 2 days off but a week off requires at least a month of advance notice. We have use it or lose it so I take all of my time off. No time off allowed the first week of every month for close. Also Jan, Apr, Jul, and Oct are bad for quarter close but could take a few days off at the end of those months.

like

Unlimited PTO, and all I have to do is let my Controller know ahead of time. Company is super laid back, so it’s always approved. We have a consultant/contractor that will fill in for us, so anything important we can’t get to before we take off gets covered.

The only way I studied in college is by cramming. Sadly is so hard for me to get studying as it just seems like it’s so long of studying till you take the test and never ends. Have any of you guys passed FAR in a month of cramming? I’m also working but my clients are a little bit easier this time of year and have some PTO days at the end of next month. If you don’t mind sharing your studying techniques if you did pass in a month that would be awesome!

Haven’t been to a holiday party outside of a startup environment so I want to look well established and not too “party-ish.”

The owners of our company like to do a holiday handout at Thanksgiving each year. They used to do a whole Thanksgiving meal (turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, pie). Last year there was a lack of available turkeys in the quantity we needed, so we switched it up and did a bottle of sparkling cider with a $25 gift card. This year the owners want to do something different but they are not sure what. Does anyone have any suggestions? We have about 300 employees in one location. Thanks!!

My work division is having a “holiday party/gathering” that we have to pay to attend, even though they had one of their best years yet. I guess HR isn’t allowing in-person parties under the company budget, so making us pay is the only way they can have it. They are pressuring people to go. 🤦‍♀️
