Q: for FAANG recruiters, do candidates get a reject stamp after failing even at the later stages?
I advanced to the last stage at Facebook (Meta) around a year ago but failed on my last interview, a combination of not being familiar with the process and not having chemistry with the interviewer.
A friend who is a hiring manager recently recommended me and this time without even a HR call I received a straight up thanks but no thanks email.

If black, always respond
If not black but connected through a close friend or from my alma mater, I’ll respond
For everyone else, nope
Hi, I'm black and I want to join BCG. You happy to network with me?
SAME. Like can you go suck the majority for their resources/guidance and leave mine be? I’ll take care of black people who reach out but I seriously wonder why so many non-blacks want to talk to me.
I feel guilty but I am ray charles in these situations. I just don't have the energy and want to conserve it for us.
If folks reach out from my alma mater I'll take the call here and there, but I'm leaning into saying no if I don't have the energy
Depends on how they reach out and what other networks we have in common. I never feel guilty about not responding but have made a few cool connections from non-Black folks. I always answer the call for Black people.
I feel bad.. because regardless of race im like I literally don't have 15 mins for anyone
I think we need a bit more context here. What is your role at your company? What has been your path/previous experiences that brought you to where you are now?
Maybe your background resonates with them and they’d like to connect based on that. Maybe your current role is very specific and they feel like you’d be the best person to provide more insight on what you do.
Of course it would be amazing if most of the conversations were coming from our own, but from your description, it’s not. The good thing is you don’t have to extend yourself where you don’t feel the need to. Refer them to others in the network!
Rising Star
I agree. Also, networking is a two-way street and it's how people get ahead in different industries. I think lack of networks with non-Black people does more harm than good. You never know who that person may know and introduce you to.
I don’t have a picture on LinkedIn, because I believe it just gives ppl a reason to judge you and not your work. But I have reached out to ppl and they can’t tell if I’m black or not.
Definitely need more context. Did they say something rude or off hand to you? In this pandemic, LinkedIn is the only way and perfect way to network. I connect with everyone. No matter their race or what state they are. We are all strangers, but I have been lucky to connect with a fascinating group of women. Don’t be so quick to judge. Connect with them. See what they post. Tou never know, you may find a mentor, a friend or someone who just posts interesting information. I recently connected with a white male attorney who is sooo fascinating and smart. And we have great conversations. Btw, I am black.
100% feel you on this
Joined a mentoring program at EY and the 3 people who reached out to me are all Indian and I was a little sad that no one Black reached out. Still gonna connect, but I felt like you OP.
