Noob question:
Is it redundant and unnecessary to invest in both VTI (Total Stock Market Index) and VOO (S&P 500 Index)?

Yes. ~80% of VTI is the content of VOO. VTI includes more stocks than VOO (so more diversified) so I just go in VTI

like

VTI and VOO may be redundant, but adding an international index fund (VXUS) might make sense.

like

For sure! Aiming for 20% allocation into VXUS

VGT is a steal right now

like

I have vti and looking to sell and put it into voo.

You’d eliminate more nonsystematic risk with the broader index, wouldn’t you? And since the difference is smaller stocks, wouldn’t you benefit from the tendency of small-caps to produce higher returns?

Piggy backing on this. What about VTI and VTSAX?

I am thinking vtsax has a larger sample versus sp500 is just the sp500.

Just threw some money into VIG and VPU

How does one find direction in what they want to do in life? I don’t find my job as a tax manager fulfilling and my busy time conflicts with some of my favorite hobbies, skiing and snowmobiling. I find it hard to determine my next step because I’m all about relationships, love my clients and am a sales/big picture thinker, so naturally industry doesn’t interest me. I’ve been super lost for a few years and think I need to act on my unhappiness and get out while I’m young. Any advice?

I have family there that can help me if I decide to leave and rent this property. Any thoughts? Just dont want to keep paying someone else mortgage.
