IMO - having an advisor from anyone of these major firms has got to be the biggest scam in today’s financial age for the average middle to upper middle class American. They are nothing more than middle men that move money in ways that you can do yourself with some basic low effort research online.
Do you use anyone for advice? I’m young and want to make sure I’m making the right financial decisions.
Are making me second guess everything. I currently have whole life and term ($500k total) $113/mo. Also, I have my Roth IRA ($300/mo) set up through them and invest $400/mo into a brokerage account.
I’ve been with them for 2 years (just started the investing piece this January) so I’m not into it that long.
A big piece of having them is a resource for financial questions too.
Appreciate your thoughts.
Whole life is generally a bad deal. You likely don’t need it and would be better served investing that elsewhere
Yeah I had a very similar perspective at first. I knew someone who left to work there and I subsequently hired them to be my financial advisor. I only do Roth IRA + disability insurance right now, but so far I haven’t had any issues. Probably won’t do life for a while given I have no dependents. Having a resource for that stuff is worth the fees IMO. I even feel like I know my personal finance stuff pretty well but having someone to bounce ideas off of and keep me in line in terms of budgeting and saving is great.
