I’ve been asked to weigh in on how to improve my firms parental leave policy. It’s currently 8 weeks paid for birth parent with an extra week for each year at the firm (up to 12 weeks total) and 2 weeks paid for non-birth parent. I’m in a major city, firm is a boutique that has been around a very long time. What would you suggest? Any studies or research you’ve seen recently on trends in parental leave policies also helpful. My billable hours bonus requirement/target is 1900. Unless I pull a 300 hour month in December, I won’t be hitting that. The reason being is that in June, I had a parent pass which required me to travel overseas to take care of arrangements. I also had another family emergency in October that also required me to travel overseas. Do you guys think the firm will take this into consideration?

The first time I heard this was when my American classmate in grad school suggested I visit a counselor because I was stressed about my grades declining due to job search pressure. Back home in India the only time I heard about that term was for folks who went insane.
