One is pushing voting restrictions to try to stay in power because they don’t think they can win elections any other way. The other would cost businesses a few extra bucks. But yeah, it’s the same because the action was the same. Context doesn’t matter at all.

likefunnysmart

In my personal opinion, “a few weeks” is a short turnaround for a discovery request like that. I’d be curious to know if you actually read it. Collections, searching and analytics, review, and productions all take significant time, coordinating between the business and one or more vendors/service providers. Also, just because a production is delivered late doesn’t necessarily mean an organization is hiding something—especially with so many e-discovery practitioners working from home, having to move these incredibly large volumes of data over resources’ home internet connections, collect custodians’ devices remotely vs. in person (or by mail), can lead to delays in production delivery.

Hahaha. Not sure why folks start such threads. Both sides have pretty firm opinions per their background, party they support and the new sources they access. Does anyone feels more educated after reading such posts or feels better off after arguing on such topics? I guess it feeds some need to see reply counter climb when both sides get into throwing mud at each other but other than that, it's just waste of time.

I’ll go ahead and say it. The past few years have absolutely cratered my trust in traditional media. It’s almost all either right-wing conspiracy peddling or left-wing political agendas with a news story and elitist language as window dressing. Almost every Mueller story, the Steele dossier, the “heroism” of Avenatti, the Russian “bounties,” the Covington Catholic kids, etc. I’ve been a party to news the NYT got incorrect by excluding critical information that even token journalism would have uncovered. I have friends in the IC hint at stories from major outlets which were absolute bunk, and I also have buddies who exited media/policy because so much of their content was to drive an agenda. It’s downright shameful what American journalism has stooped to. I absolutely loathe to admit it, but Trump was right — the national media is incredibly biased and only serves the liberal elite.

likefunny

“Only serves the liberal elite”. You had me til the end there. Do you seriously think for-profit news outlets have liberal owners? Like…truly leftist owners? Do you think Bezos, for example, is liberal elite because he posted a BLM post? Is FOX News liberal elite trash or fair and balanced?

Lol, fair enough and well-said. I stay off Twitter for my own sanity and will happily plead ignorance to its use. I’m similarly not a fan of tying identity so closely to politics.

Am I getting this right? No evidence of widespread voter fraud, but we should be OK with a partisan overhaul of election administration and election rules because “there might be something there.”? And we should gut protections for voters of color put in place after these voters were discriminated against for literally generations? And voting laws can only be racist if explicitly racist in letter? Even if the old Jim Crow laws weren’t explicit themselves? And people making the new rules should be, like, the descendants of the same people who came up with the Racist-in-effect voting laws from back in the day? With no federal oversight? Because “states’ rights®” All this under the guise of: there may be something there? Am I understanding correctly? Asking for a friend.

Trying to prove media bias all seems besides the point. If all of the "mainstream media" is so horribly biased toward the left, and if that actually mattered, then why can't the left actually win anything? A "majority" in Congress with a razor thin margin and they can't pass a smidgen of their agenda. A judiciary pulled rightward. And yet Trumpers are forever obsessed with proving that everyone is cheating them out of everything. Zzzzzzzz. I think it's just a victim complex. And, like everyone has mentioned, bias and blatantly hypocritical headlines are different than actually making things up.

The American Left is somewhat diverse. Traditional Dems are pretty moderate. Some would argue they’re even right-leaning moderates on the global scale. The Progressive wing is more Left, but not overly leftist on a global scale. The American Right has gone off the right wing deep end and has fully embraced it.

I did notice that Michael Avenatti's prison sentence got very little coverage last week. Remember when some fools were cheering him on to run for president or something? Everyone has a bias. The media absolutely chases the pre determined narrative they want to tell.

FWIW, as someone who’s very liberal and supports government-enabled action on climate change, I can excuse Republicans jumping skipping state to avoid session. I wish a scientific and economic challenge wasn’t a polarizing policy issue, but we are where we are. Restrictions on voting rights - on the other hand - are inexcusable. It threatens the definition of who we are, our credibility and legitimacy. If we don’t have that climate change doesn’t matter. Neither does COVID, neither do geopolitical threats like China. The threat is from within.

IMO no one should be breaking quorum. Politicians need to do their job on both sides of the spectrum and help the people they represent. I’m over this division. I work with people I don’t like all the time and it doesn’t give me carte blanche to hop on a PJ and drink Miller Lite with my friends/colleagues during business hours. It doesn’t set a good example. It’s juvenile TBH.

If the articles were written by the same authors, I might agree with you. But they’re not. So I’m not sure why you think different people would write about and frame different issues and situations differently.

Because the impeachment investigation against him, which was launched by a democratically controlled NY State Assembly, is still ongoing. There’s been tons of pressure from NY State Dems on this, including Schumer and Pelosi who both called for him to resign. If Cuomo doesn’t resign, the recourse is impeachment. Which is being pursued by members of his own party. See also: Al Franken, who actually resigned when called upon. I’d compare and contrast with McConnell and Trump, McCarthy and Gaetz, but no need. On Covid, I’ll concede that some Dems did cling to masking and travel restrictions despite evidence. Biden, the literal and figurative leader of the Democratic Party, very publicly did not.

I’ve been promised a promotion. The discussion started many months ago before Covid.
