Not consulting related, but important nonetheless. To my fellas — are you making enough space/time for your mental health every day? What do you think are some things that we can do to improve our collective mental health and well-being as a community?

Acknowledge toxic masculinity.

Agree w/ this. I think sometimes the discourse around this becomes derailed b/c I think a lot of people aren’t aligned on the definition of toxic masculinity and get defensive as a consequence. I’ve found these guidelines to be pretty helpful

Normalize therapy in the black community. Not 🙎🏾‍♂️ but 🙎🏾‍♀️ and it’s just sad when I mention I have an appt with my therapist in a black setting and get that awkward silence (you know which one)

likesmarthelpful

Agreed - I grew up in a Caribbean household where mental health was almost never discussed and if it was the only help that was offered was to “pray about it”. But I do think that leading by example is extremely important in this area. By telling other folks you’re seeing a therapist regularly you may wind up changing some minds in the long run, and help them get the help they need. Even if it’s just 1/2 people it makes a difference.

Taking mental health seriously is a start. I see how ppl get weird if I mention therapy. So many people in our community think you can pray away mental illness. I always say pray for the courage to seek help.

likehelpful

Yes we definitely need to make our mental health very seriously. What do you think is a good way to jump start that?

I was on the fence. But this post I will say has pushed me over the edge to start therapy. So as a black man thank you OP.

Be active in all aspects of life in terms of physical, mental, and spiritually. Promoting balance in my life for me has been an essential part of managing my mental health.

Toxic masculinity is not a thing. Its a made up concept to degrade hetero men.

like

@C1 — Hey brotha, I hear you. And I understand where that mindset comes from b/c it wasn’t too long ago where I thought the same thing. Like I mentioned in a previous comment — I think a lot of us get hung up on the wording/semantics of the phrase. I’ve found these guidelines on what toxic masculinity is and isn’t. What do you think?

Talking. To someone. Your wife, partner, boo, friend, brother, parent, therapist. We don’t have to do it all alone. If we start talking to each other we will find that we are not alone and may even help uncover strategies that could be helpful in regaining our piece of mine.

helpful

Agree to an extent. I do believe that talking is a great first step b/c so many of us (men) are just told to “be strong and stoic” when we’re really hurting inside. Talking to (non judgmental) friends and family is also very important as well, but, I try not to unload all of my problems on them b/c I don’t think that’s entirely emotionally healthy either. I’ve been working w/ a therapist for the last 5 years now and it saved my life and is one of the best decisions I’ve made thus far.

What can I say to recruiters that will WOW them or replace the fact I have no degree because that’s what most of these company’s require.

What to select? Jio CTC: 30 LPA + 10% variable designation: senior data scientist manager (WLB more, less learning, domain matching the role, job security is high) EY GDS CTC: 39 LPA + 10% variable designation: associate manager level 3 (Not sure about WLB, thedomain would be different from the current domain, issue of job security as high CTC and nonrelevant domain) 6 years experience in Data Science (Life Science and healthcare) Jio Platforms Limited EY Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Why are town Hall meetings so impersonal? They are all about awards / the number of people hired. I know FCB health is large, but we never hear from people who aren’t Executives. Last town hall, when discussing inclusion efforts, there were no people of color represented and one of the 4 pillars of diversity was centered around our “reputation as an organization” (that really rubbed me the wrong way). At my last agency those conversations were always led by people of color from every level.

Hi everyone, this is a question on Health Spending Account.
Does the UK have a health spending account like the US, where, similar to a Roth or ISA, the money you put in this account will not be taxed so long as you spend for health reasons.
Through my company, we are using Vitality services for our healthcare and we have a Personal Health Fund, but we cannot more cash to it. And to make it more annoying, this money does not roll over to the next year.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

SaaS question. Anyone have experience with SaaS contracts that can speak to typical terms for liability caps? We are generally successful at having liability caps for most types of damages but clients want no-cap for confidentiality and security issues. Anyone successful at having a cap with respect to those issues or are we being unreasonable in trying to cap those liabilities as well?

You know, for all the talk and Internet stories about Black women being less desirable I looked back at old blog posts and remembered how many guys - nice well educated, employed men - I met that seemed genuinely interested. Fwiw I'm not especially light skinned & don't have "good" hair.

What was the difference between then and now aside from 15 years? I think confidence and openness. I hadn't been exposed to as much of the negative propaganda.
