I hate people and I assume everyone is a c*** before I get to know them but at the same time I love hanging out with people who are nice so it's kind of difficult because I never initiate

In Dubai it’s fairly easy to connect with people . A very small % of the population is from here, so everyone is open to meeting new people. You can meet people through work, hobbies or in many cases through a friend of a friend, no matter where in the world you are from, chances are you know someone that knows someone here.

Context: singaporean, lived at least 3 months in each Hong kong - easy to meet friends who are also expats but not locals, and friendships feels transient (most do not view hk as a long term plan) Sydney - difficult if you are starting from zero (most ppl already have close knit circles) but easy to expand if you know 1 or 2 ppl as most are quite friendly London - surprisingly easy; very international and you can join many interest groups Bangkok - easy if you have 1-2 local friends, thais are v friendly in general. Otherwise there are expat interest groups but they are not as fun as the locals Chicago - not so easy; locals (midwesterns) and expats tend to clique together in racial groups (ie indians, asians), easier to join the interest groups and start from there New york - easy, international, bound to be someone you know from somewhere Seattle - not easy but i used dating apps

Got promoted to senior but did not get a raise to go with it. Firm keeping salaries flat this year due to COVID-19, but I was shocked when I found out promoted staff wouldn’t be getting a raise either. To me, this whole thing rings hollow because the firm has told us multiple times that they were projecting flat growth for the year when compared to last year (which was one of the best in firm history). So it pisses me off that they shot their mouth off about how great year last year was...cont

Do any real people actually want schools to reopen as it stands now? Im hearing so much about it but it feels like a weird disconnected political thing and not a live humans with kids thing. *Obv the goal is to get covid under control so kids can go back safely, this is assuming infection rates stay steady or continue to climb

I’ve been fully vaccinated since early this year (Pfizer), and tested positive for Covid-19 three days ago. I’m laid up in bed feeling terrible and quarantined so that my wife (who tested negative) and two kids don’t catch it from me. Remember: be safe. Don’t relax yet. The vaccines are wonderful, but we can still get it and pass it on.

If you were fired / terminated by a prior employer, when searching for a new job, what would you say if the application / recruiter asks if you got fired or why you left the prior job? Will the reason pop up during background check? Would companies really give you a 2nd chance if you are being honest about the fact that you got fired? (Note: assuming pre-COVID)

*Advice* I recently accepted position at a 50K pay cut (covid). I shared my target salary /lateral move & at the negotiation point, they came up slightly by way of qtrly bonus structure but also outlined path for growth incl. expected salary increases at said points. Said it could be achieved in under a year. By day 4 of the new job they had accelerated to the final point in that plan without making good on title / salary. Spoke up immediately... “in discussion” 2 weeks in. Bait/switch WWUD??

Need ethics/moral help from my fellow 🐟 I got laid off from ACN earlier this year. I accepted an offer and started at a boutique consulting firm exactly one month ago today. This morning, I got an email from Deloitte recruiting for the same position I’m in now, which is where I want to develop my career. Part of me wants a break from the big consulting firms, but at the same time, going to a Big 4 would feel more at home to me. Is it worth entertaining the offer, or should I just stay away?
