Not currently in BigLaw but looking to lateral to a remote securities/cap markets position (live in a secondary market) from a boutique. Non-traditional older associate, billed 2000 hours last year and received a 2.5% raise and $1,000 bonus (other associates received $20k). Performance was not terrible, but less supervision so definitely made mistakes. Now finding out I am undervalued after getting interest from firms in the range of 50-60% more than my current salary. Anyone hiring?

What year are you?

Non traditional but suppose id be considered 2nd or 3rd year.

Cap Markets associates in biglaw would probably love to bill only 2000 hours with the associated pay cut.

You’re right, the associates on my team from big law have definitely taken pay cuts, but are far above my salary and most bill less than 2000 hrs. This is less about the total hours than it is about feeling valued so maybe I am off base only talking hours and comp.

No worries at all; it’s a more of a vent post and a little fishing for any firms hiring remote.

DM me if you're looking. We have offices nationwide and am pretty sure we're hiring cap markets. They're super busy I know.

For people who are familiar with work culture in Tokyo, how much embezzlement takes place? I see a good number of Japanese people on Instagram buying Bentleys and such. I'm confused how they can do so while living in a high COL with, on average, lower salaries than in the US. With the scandal at Nissan and how many executives were found to be stealing money from the company, I wonder if this is some unspoken secret about doing business in Tokyo? Unless their comp curve is extremely steep.

Should I ask for a raise? My 6-month review is next week and I’m thinking about asking for a raise. I’ve never asked for one before and normally would never think of asking for one until at least 12 months but in the last couple of months my role and responsibilities have enhanced significantly. I don’t have much experience as this is my first job in advertising (comms background) and I don’t want to come off as naive or ignorant! Any advice would be welcomed. Thank you!

Curious if any MBB folks can shed light on current hiring environment. Undergrad campus hire at Deloitte S&O recently laid off in the COVID cost cutting wave after 2 years. Disappointed, but grateful for some freedom to explore here! Primarily looking at industry/corp strat jobs since consulting in general has been hit so hard, but considering applying to Big 3. Have heard from a few MBB friends that new hires with offers aren’t starting till end of year. Any chance of a lateral move right now?
