Not exactly sure how to ask this, but are there any biglaw (or any law firm really) practices/roles that are relatively independent and give longer term assignments? I’m in corporate at a V5 and don’t mind the long hours per se, but the hundreds of emails per day and the constant barrage of 10 minute micro-tasks are tough to manage

I have a friend who does appellate work at a V10 and it’s large projects at a time with little day to day oversight. Sounds like a good gig

My experience in funds work is closer to this. Only did a few projects as a junior though.

You might like LP-side funds work. Discrete, leanly-staffed matters with few deliverables, specialists usually work separately in parallel, and most of the heavy lifting gets dumped on fund counsel. Much less of a “project management” role than other transactional practices.

That’s been my experience as a junior in lit and my friends who have switched from corporate to lit at the firm feel similarly

Anyone else just sitting around waiting for the ax to drop? I'm a soon to be 2nd year corporate associate who has seen work completely dry up. My utilization held pretty steady around 50% immediately after shutdown, but August was below 15 billables with no appreciable work in the pipeline. Aside from letting people know I'm available and doing pro-bono/CLE, it's starting to feel like a serious "covidcation" leading to termination.
