I was always in great control of my weight (although I had PCOS) and when I got the Mirena, it seems like nothing I do will help me lose weight. It was supposed to manager my PCOS (if it did that who knows) but I have less control over my weight now.
Why not switch to copper and skip the hormones?
I had the opposite experience, gained 10lbs on the pill and it dropped off when I switched to Mirena
Switched to mirena about a year ago and have been gaining weight but didn't think about it as related. Have some large cists on one ovary (found during CT for intestinal issues). Need to schedule an appointment with my OBGYN. Is that stuff all related to switching to mirena from the pill?
@Peleton1: for how much better I feel though so far, I can deal!

A2 interesting! My sister has PCOS, I haven’t been tested (yet). I’ve had it in for 2-3 years and am considering getting to removed to see if it helps but it would so expensive to have put back in now
@OP you don’t need the mirena removed to see if you have it! Just ask for an intravaginal ultrasound and ask your obgyn to look for cysts on your ovaries! If you have them, your doc will know, it’s easy to spot and mine showed me what they look like
My OBGYN said that may happen if your body is used to taking the pill. I’m not sure how it relates to other conditions, but that was her warning with switching to an IUD.
Have the Mirena for 2.5 years now, and I’ve actually lost weight (probably due to more cardio and a better diet though)
P1 because of the increased flow....
My weight has been pretty steady, but my chest sure did disappear 😩. I am having other issues with it tho which has me thinking about removal.
Only a week in on Mirena and my body has dropped some serious bloat from being on the NuvaRing. My favorite BC ever was loestrinFE when it first came in market... no weight or mood issues. Going to see how this thing treats me over the next year though...
PS - how long does this annoying spotting last after insertion??
I lost 10 lbs over the past year from just doing hot yoga. I'd had the Mirena for a year by then.
@BCG1 My first mirena had me spotting on and off for 9 months, the second one was more like 2 weeks. Totally depends on your body!
