Just jumped to industry from doing IT audits, first day in the job and it feels like the controls here seems super subpar. The higher ups seems to have different focus; business needs first, how should I focus and progress in such environment?

I really feel like I’ve been dealt a really bad hand in my life. It feels like no one gives me a chance. Whether it’s a job I know I’m qualified for, or someone I’m interested in. Even things that appear to be good at first end up sucking. I know I should be grateful for what I have and that so many others are less fortunate. But I still can’t help but think that for a person in my position, given the opportunities that I was given, I am just a complete failure and nowhere near what I could be.

Is it worth talking to a trusted partner at my firm before I try to lateral for higher pay? I’m a 3rd year in management-side L&E at a well-regarded mid-sized firm in a major city. Our minimum is 1950, but I’m paid $100k less than 3rd years in big law (imo my firm is charging too little for our work).
