Not planning on leaving my current position anytime soon but there are other areas of law I find interesting. So what’s the best way to build experience/knowledge in another practice area? CLEs, volunteer work, etc? Specially interested in real estate and wills/trusts.

Agreed that CLEs can be a good source of knowledge to help get you started, especially if it’s an introductory-level seminar like “Wills and Trusts 101.”

National Business Institute (nbi-sems.com) is another provider that has some really helpful CLEs.

like

CLEs for knowledge. I like lawline for this.

Volunteer for actual experience.

I am so beyond ready to leave my current job, but can’t yet, since bonuses are paid out in January. 😬

In the meantime, I’ve applied to a lot of similar roles (slightly higher) but have not heard - good or bad - from any. Is it common for companies to slow down hiring in December because of Q4 rush, people on holiday, etc.?

Accepted an offer of employment with a mid-sized firm to begin in a couple of months. I’ve always wanted to shoot for big law but haven’t had the opportunity thus far. Overall, I accepted because I didn’t want to take the opportunity for granted in addition to the uncertainty with hiring due to covid. Would it be an issue to shoot for a big law opportunity in the interim? I know how this looks and sounds, so I definitely don’t want to set a precedent that I deal in bad faith.

Hey I'm a solo Attorney who does business law. Until now I've never litigated. However, it is something I would like to start doing. Does anyone have any advice on what to read or look to in order to be as prepared as possible. CA attorney if that helps. Thank you in advance.

Our firm is growing fast and we need to add another attorney to keep up with the work. Our compensation package is 20-30% higher than what others firms in our area are offering. However, I’m still finding it difficult to get qualified associate to even apply for the position. I think part of the problem may be because we are located in a mid-sized city rather than a major metro area. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to attract talent when you are a newer small firm in a mid-size market?

Question re: salary. I’m thinking about accepting an offer at a small (4-6 attorneys) transactional firm. I would primarily be working on NDAs for clients. The role sounds great (no billable hours, fully remote, flexible hours/ can work from anywhere); however, the salary is $70K. I’m a new attorney, with only one year of experience. Does this salary seem low? If so, any advice on what someone in my position should ask for?
