Question: What incentive do consultants have to work more efficiently than coworkers since billing is done hourly, not by deliverable? A relevant hypothetical: 1. Consultant A can get task X done in 2 hours. 2. Consultant B can get task X done in 8 hours. 3. Let both A & B work an 8 hour work day. 4. In 8 hours, A can complete task X four times while B completes task X once. 5. Since consulting is billed hourly, both consultants get the same utilization and billable hours from the client.
"Honestly, it's like dragging your nutsack over a bed of glass." -my client manager's thoughts on a call with IT this morning
I am approaching my promotion time from BTA to Consultant in Deloitte Consulting. I have been on a single client (one of the FANG) working in data security. What kind of profiles in the industry suite my background. I have a master's in computer science but want to stay away from development, preferably data analytics, big data and other related space.
Can a startup agency use employee’s client lists from old jobs to get work? Not the case studies, but just the names. I’ve seen it before.
How is slalom compared to Accenture? Will probably have 0 travel until next year and wondering if it is still a better choice for work life balance. Since this project started last month, I am working 12 hours everyday and on weekends. I'm just analyst
I’m not a good mgt consultant at all. Tough for me to pmo and absorb info. I am strongly a “ESTP” and do enjoy the client relationship aspect and traveling lifestyle. Should I pivot to sales?
Is staff aug / PMO career suicide? Coming up on 2 years now at the same client... I understand the importance of the account for our firm, but I worry my skills are getting stale. How to balance?
Need advice I’ve been staffed on two relatively small project teams and have been staffed with the same SC and I pretty much work closely only with them. I feel like I only get scraps (ctnd. below)
Too many layoffs. The industry is just hurting too much. Time for client side. But tough to do as a Planner. Thanks for listening
Micromanagers that don't add value are the worst. Just let me do my work and take it to client, if you have nothing to contribute...
The next time that you are considering asking for points for smallest mistakes of HK, just think how you'd feel if your client reports your small mistakes to your partner and ask for discount
Decisions: Currently in a project with contractor resources. One is a whiny pain in the ass, who has poorly raised good points. My SM is running the project but not well. How to handle?
I once muted my mic for an entire hour conversation with the manager on my project. He never realized I didn't say a word because he would stfu 😂
I have 4 Alaska Gold Guest Upgrades and 4 Alaska Lounge Passes valid up until 12/31/17. Anyone looking to trade for miles, points or cash?
KPMG will pay for an MBA? I have one to finish and could maybe suck up another year in audit to get the rest of that degree paid for. Anyone have details on this? How does one qualify?
Thoughts on hitting utilization targets? Our Consultant target is 90% but PTO available accounts for 10% of the year and is not subtracted from the available hours pool of the equation 😪
How many miles are appropriate for a 12 hour delay and one day missed of work as a result? This was international travel, delay wasn’t weather related.
Did anyone get picked up in the second round of h1b lottery that happened last Friday? Thinking when will it be the right time to chase my lawyer. Thank you!
Just out of curiosity - what sort of events/mishaps, with airlines or hotels, actually trigger you to ask for points as compensation?
My day has arrived. Today, I, a Tech Advisory Consultant, was smacked by a surprise afternoon layoff call. I was assured my PA review was nowhere near bottom 5%, but the machine of Accenture has inscrutable ways of determining High Performance. All ends are beginnings,
Dilemma: Daycare requested everyone to pay 100% next month to maintain it’s business model even though it’s closed. But we have a baby on the way & husband’s job could be furloughed during this crisis
Does anyone know anyone who exited big 4 risk consulting to Google? Curious on what the exit opp was
Consultants: Where do you put your money after rolling over a 401k? Do you put 100% in a single fund like VTI or target year fund? Also, anyone preparing for a recession?
Ladies .. what are your go to travel work shoes you wear on Mondays to go to the client site directly from the airport ?
How do I get taken off a matter I really hate? I’ve been on it for a year and I absolutely hate the team. The culture is toxic and the partners are horrible bullies. My work product has been suffering as a result and I worry about this affecting my reputation/reviews. This is my busiest matter and I’ve tried saying I’m busy on something else but no one is listening. What are the pros and cons of telling the assigning team or the managing partner that I need off for my mental health?
Thoughts on investing into rental properties vs putting money into market? Had 2 HUD rented properties and currently selling them and unsure whether to invest in purchasing another one or just use that money to buy stocks. I’m worried that low income renters will struggle with paying rent due to losing jobs because of COVID. Thoughts?
At what moment did you know you wanted to be in for the long haul and be a partner? Was there a moment or a project that made it clear? Any regrets?
