Consulting

Not staffed on the project but I worked really hard & pulled an all nighter to “help” someone with a deliverable and all I received was a “Thanks.” Genuine appreciation goes a long way

M2 looks like you are the guy who would just say thanks if someone helped you. Be a leader not manager, but again it’s not your fault you are a manager so that was expected. Bye

How many points? Next time don't help that person, and appreciation does go a long way. We should all remember that when we're asking for help.

M2, no, obviously not. I’m glad to help where I can. It would be nice to seem more sincere when people spend 14 hours+ to help, especially when there is no personal/direct gain on their end.

Yeah, figure out who appreciates your help and who will have your back when you need it

OP don’t worry your work ethic and eagerness to help will go Long way. Just because one person didn’t recognize you things won’t fall apart. Someone else hold you up and recognize you. You will do well. I am proud of you.

That thanks may be far more than a thanks in the long run. Those who do work looking for recognition are never the ones that find it. Believe in karma - do good things and good things will happen to you.

Appreciation is directly proportional to value. This basically means your “hard” work either did not provide as much as value you think it provided that warranted for more than just "thanks” or the other person is simply a jerk. Judge it for yourself.

At least you got a thanks, I’ve done that before and received radio silence,

You expect more than thank you. Sometimes you won't even get that. Be happy you got a thank you.

WM1- Absolutely, I don’t focus on the “recognition” aspect but more on sincere appreciation. I value people’s time greatly from big to small because these are real people with other priorities.

Question: What incentive do consultants have to work more efficiently than coworkers since billing is done hourly, not by deliverable? A relevant hypothetical: 1. Consultant A can get task X done in 2 hours. 2. Consultant B can get task X done in 8 hours. 3. Let both A & B work an 8 hour work day. 4. In 8 hours, A can complete task X four times while B completes task X once. 5. Since consulting is billed hourly, both consultants get the same utilization and billable hours from the client.

What kind of profiles in the industry suite my background. I have a master's in computer science but want to stay away from development, preferably data analytics, big data and other related space.

How do I get taken off a matter I really hate? I’ve been on it for a year and I absolutely hate the team. The culture is toxic and the partners are horrible bullies. My work product has been suffering as a result and I worry about this affecting my reputation/reviews. This is my busiest matter and I’ve tried saying I’m busy on something else but no one is listening. What are the pros and cons of telling the assigning team or the managing partner that I need off for my mental health?
