Not to get political, genuine question... If disabled recipients of social security have to re-prove their disability every 2 years (under proposed new rules), why not re-do eVerify every 2 years?

What’s eVerify? I can google this but I’m sure the rest of the audience here would appreciate knowing too

Because social security is a monetary benefit and disabled people might need to prove that their circumstances still make them qualified to receive a benefit. Working in the US is a right that all US citizens and permanent residents have, and it’s not a benefit or something that changes based on circumstances. Everyone else who has a temporary right to work goes through a process of re-verification. Yes - there is a very small chance that some citizens or permanent residents can lose their status in the mean time. But to relinquish their status these people generally have to be outside of the US when they do so, or loose their status as a consequence of deportation (for permanent residents). So unless you work remotely 100% of the time, this doesn’t apply.

Cost of additional compliance outweighs benefits.

What evidence is there that social security fraud is larger than undocumented immigrants working? Cost of compliance isn’t huge, eVerify isn’t a massive time vampire?

Because you’re comparing checking against free government benefits vs illegal employment that doesn’t cost the government money?

I-9 verification already takes care of this process

We have eVerify every year, it’s called filing taxes.

Is the IRS linked directly with the DHS and USCIS? If not, then it doesn’t verify ongoing eligibility for employment, unless I’m mistaken?

I am scared to take a medical leave of absence for depression / burnout even though I know and my therapist agrees it would be the best thing for me to do right now. I feel like I will be removed from my current team and I will be marked in the office as “weak” (even though I was rated 2 and then 1 for PYs) and it will ruin my chances of being promoted to senior next July. Are my fears valid? Will this medical LOA derail my career progression? Or am I thinking about it the wrong way?

I’m mentally breaking down because I have been doing a job of a scheduler, PM, notetaker, regulatory submissions, and thus have no room for growth to work on strategy. I’m an AS and I am so sick of having to remind everyone because no one looks at my notes, recaps, and no one remembers anything from any meeting. Recently because I’m so exhausted I started making more “mistakes” like not catching a mistake on a submission. Is this because I suck or is it time for me to move off? I feel terrible.

I’m looking for assistance on building your own portfolio in my traditional 401K. I’ve been reading that it’s important to choose funds with low expense ratios. Also, that it is recommended to have at least one US stock, international stock , and bond. I am 24yo so ideally, I’d want to allocate 90%-100% to stocks and 0%-10% to the bond. Any other things I should be looking at?
