Consulting

Not trying to start anything, but was just wondering how Capgemini ranks in the consulting world in terms of general reputation?

They have a better than good reputation outside of the US. Their business model does not line up with traditional strategy consulting firms in the US. While there is definitely strategy and a consulting group, strategy for the sake of strategy does not seem to be the dominant business model as with some other consulting companies. The model seems to be either, strategy as a gateway to long-term implementation/services work or selling resources for implementation/services work. Thus, the body shop reputation here in the US. It doesn’t help that Capgemini pays poorly with less overall benefits (in US) when compared to other consulting companies which just adds to the body shop commentary. The company has some really interesting IT work that no one knows about, surprising stuff. Generally a good culture, but the poor pay means regular attrition.

At least here in Europe Capgemini Invent ist starting to expand heavily, especially in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland. But yes, even though we are thought to be a strategy consultancy we do a lot of project management, implementation and so on. The salary here in Europe is mostly the same as it is for the Big4 or Accenture, especially if you came from one of those. But it's depending heavily on the industry. Projects are of course mostly in digitization, but you will find enough other stuff to do. I really like the culture. Very open and non-toxic, at least from what I experience.

Generally, they are just a tech shop, but they do some pretty big name stuff. Strategy folks talk bad about them because there isn’t really a traditional consulting arm. They do a lot of IT things, including implementations. Competitive SAP group

I’ve been wondering the same thing! I have heard good things about the culture, but not much else.

On the plus side, they are French, so a lot of the French employment practices bleed over.
