Not understanding why J&J would be canceled over 6 blood clots out of 6.8 million shots? Who says they are even related to the shot? And that’s less than 1 in a million; what’s the big deal? I got J&J Thursday btw and am very glad I got it, no concerns here.

Make people feel good that they are looking into the vaccines

like

I just got J&J Friday (no regrets!), but I will say none of the literature that you are given or the conversation at the vaccine site mentions blood clotting as a side effect to look for. I would guess a big part of this is to update those guidelines to ensure people are educated appropriately. They also may adjust recommendations to not include those at Hugh risk for clotting away from this particular vaccine.

Because we are so afraid that some bad will happen that they are being overly cautious. And now we are all f****d because the idiot antivax movement will use this as a banner for all time. Be ready whatever little chance we had is now in the toilet

like

This is def what I’m worried about..

Wait till people find out that women taking birth control face a 1 in 10,000 chance of developing blood clots.

The reason we can pause the distribution of the J&J vaccine and dig further into it is because the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines have been proven safe and effective and because the government was able to obtain 300M doses of those two. It’s simple out of an abundance of caution and the fact that we are in a position to pump the brakes.

like

Totally agree that it’s out of an abundance of caution since the rate of incidence is very low, but the comparison to blood clots from birth control is unfair. The type of blood clots caused by the vaccine are much more dangerous than the ones caused by the birth control pill and cannot be treated the same way with blood thinners like heparin (not to mention, many women do avoid the pill because of clotting risks).

What makes us think we have the whole story? It does seem unreasonable to halt a vaccine just due to 6 persons out out 6.8 million shots developing clots. At those odd, you have a higher chance of catching COVID in the US than getting a clot from a Janssen shot.

like

It's tied also to the type of blood clot that happened, not just that 6 people developed a clot.

Caution move and nothing wrong with that.

That said, got J&J last Friday. Zero regrets and so happy I'm vaccinated.

J&J has history - talc and ovarian cancer. FDA stopped due to an abundance of caution.

like

People bring up the baby powder thing a lot, but a company sourcing contaminated materials in an over-the-counter product isn’t a good comparison to side effects from a strictly regulated pharmaceutical.

like

Theres no way I believe its just 6 cases. For them to halt production gives me bigger story vibes.

likefunny

Wondering if they scrutinized the tens of millions of Moderna and Pfizer shots if they’d find something similar? This just seems like a non-issue and more bad press for J&J.

like

G1- I don’t really understand what you’re arguing about. I’m an intelligent person that reads things that are provided to me. None of that happened, so I wouldn’t be surprised if many people in the country were not provided with these materials.
I was actually surprised, bc I answered the question asking if I was a “lactating” mother and would have wanted to provide info on my side effects, etc, to help inform data for this population.
So while there may be legal or regulatory compliance to follow, this does not mean that all sites follow it.

The problem is you can't put faces and names to the people whose lives are saved by the J&J shot, you can only use statistics. We don't have the alternate universe simulation to prove who would have died. But the incredibly rare failure, even if it was or wasn't caused by the vaccine, has a face, a name, and a family.

also AZ’s vaccine, which has a similar technology, has also had a potential blood clot issue

I’m in discussions to become the GC of a mid size but international company that does ~$1 billion in annual revenue. Smallish legal department. They’ve asked for my comp expectations. I don’t have specific expectations but I want to be compensated at least market for a NYC based GC (which looks like cash comp of at least $300k plus bonus, etc).
