Nothing is more depressing than interviewing for a dream job (telling your close family and friends about it) then not getting it 😔

Vulnerability to your friends and family about really wanting something is natural and normal. You are human and shared your true feelings, which will make people more willing to open up to you about their own hopes and dreams. You did nothing wrong. Best wishes, and know that if it doesn’t open, it’s not your door.

That’s why you should never tell anyone until it ACTUALLY happens! It’s just unnecessary reminder that something didn’t go as you planned. Lesson learned!

Assurance Senior 1 why are you yelling at OP they just got turned down WTF is wrong with you

likefunny

Assurance Senior 1 merely accentuated ‘actually’ in an interface where italics is lacking, and the advice is spot on. Reminds me of the tv show Vice Principals where Gamby always sets himself up for failure by being unable to contain himself with seemingly good news

OP, I could not even tell you how many times that happened to me throughout life, not always with jobs, but similarly striving for something and not achieving it on the first try. Keep your head up, treat it as a learning experience and come back from it stronger then ever. I disagree with others here. I will always share with my friends and loved ones. It’s okay to come up short once in a while. I am a strong believer that you can’t just drum up your successes, it’s important to talk about your failures. At lease for me, that’s how I learn and come back better positioned to achieve my goals.

SM1 sounds like the type of guy who is a SM because he's always been too scared to go after his dream job. Fuggitaboutem OP. Keep that head up. Landing the right role is about getting these reps in.

Ugh I feel for you, that is the worst. I’ve had that too where my friends and family were all excited and we all thought it was a done deal and I got the old “not the right fit at the right time, but under normal circumstances...” Uh huh

Haw haw. You were inadequate to a potential employer.

Everyone, including your family and friends, has experienced failure before. Your family and friends all love and care about you. I’m sure the completely understand, would never judge you, and are already rooting for your next time :)

Aw it’s ok OP, your family won’t think less of you and your friends will most likely forget. Yea in the future try to not tell until it’s finalized, but it’s not a big deal! There will be plenty of other opportunities 😊

Apply again! If it’s your dream, don’t give up. Try other companies or even the same one you interviewed with

Has anyone ever disclosed a mental health diagnosis to their firm? I have ADHD and have never told my firm because it was never relevant. I’m on medication and I always get my work done on time and I do a good job. However, I’m always behind on entering my billable hours into our time entry system (I keep track on paper) and I wish I could tell them that my ADHD makes small tasks like that harder, but I’m worried about how knowing that about me might change how they perceive me. Any advice?

The firm “encourages” reaching out to partners to chat, though I’ve tried and been essentially ignored. Partners rarely have enough time to give me feedback, so I feel they don’t have time to chat.
