“Mark up an agreement” dos and donts

Kirkland sent extensive markups one Friday at 5:30 with an email saying they looked forward to closing on Monday as planned. It was SO amazing to ignore that email (with our client's approval) and send our markup back on Monday afternoon.

Does Kirkland have different work weeks? Why do they sit on our draft that was sent on Tuesday and get back to us on Friday asking it back by Monday.
Intentional

It has to be intentional

Do you ever realize that maybe Kirkland clients are the ones that are the reason docs get turned later in the week? Can assure that that KE associates probably also don’t want to be finalizing drafts at 6PM on Fridays

C1 - you work enough deals across from them and you start to pick up on the fact that it's a strategy.
A6 - if it weren't a guaranteed thing on every K&E deal, I might believe it's not strategic. But it happens without fail with them, regardless of office or team running the deal. No other firm I work across has this happen on every deal. And when it does happen working across from other firms, they're apologetic and try to make calls work for everyone. K&E sends docs and demands insane turns of comments and unilaterally schedules calls re those documents at their (in)convenience. Not to mention their absurd aggressiveness in drafting that you have to talk a 6th year "partner" off of, who's been kept so busy turning docs and sending dial ins that they don't have the technical competence they should have for their years.
I am working across a K&E team that are angels and we are unintentionally the buttheads on the deal. Feels bad man
K&E attorney here - there are definitely partners that like to play this game. Lots of egos around here. Don’t blame the associates sending the email. It’s usually the partners or the clients that have been groomed by them.
Gunner groomers lol

I got a draft from them last night at 11pm. They wanted comments before an 8am call today. They'd had the agreement for a week (sent on Monday, last night was Saturday). Would have loved to ignore instead of working at 6am on a Sunday
Worked across from them on a funds coinvest. Wasn’t supposed to close for 10 days. They sent us docs saturday afternoon saying they want to sign everything Sunday and close Monday.
K&E corporate will 5pm Friday drop their own specialists to get docs out Monday.
Curious - what happens if you ignore KE’s request for Monday morning turnaround and deliver it Monday afternoon regardless, even without client’s permission?

They will find a loop with both clients and say there is a delay bc of OP not delivering in time.
