An Associate Producer who doesn’t want to be called a Junior Producer, but doesn’t have enough experience to be a full Producer yet.
I'm dying to start Production Strategist...seems like it's needed.
This just means a producer who came from vice. Ha
Editor 1: so, “Creditor?"
I imagine as agencies get more lean they’ll be looking for people who can do more than one thing. Being able to concept and produce social content as a single individual will be immensely helpful. Just because someone is a producer doesn’t mean they don’t have good ideas or can’t be creative. Not saying their ideas will be award winning. But sometimes you don’t need next level creative on a Facebook post. I have been fortunate enough to work with some amazing creative teams and have sold work that I have concepted with their help. Teamwork makes the dream work!
I’d offer up that creative producer title is trending to distinguish people from an Integrated Producer title, which is a fancier title for a Project Manager. Depending on the agency. Producer title doesn’t mean same as it did decades ago.
maybe because the word “producer” isn’t just used for content managers anymore? i have seen it used for project managers not creating content.
To me it seems to try to bring “producer of any idea” into a title. Can be video, digital, experiential, etc etc. which brings it closer to project management, but specific to bringing creative ideas to life. Sexier than “content producer” but less douchey than “idea producer."
So many digital “producer” positions are really just PM’s that manage work flow and staffing hours, there is nothing creative about the job. Thus the need for young producers that came up in the digital side to add “creative” to their title. There are now so many diff kinds of roles for a producer now. Often times, the creative teams have never worked with a real producer that is part of the creative team and do not include them in the creative process. Working for digital shops like this is hard for EP’s that can tell in 10 minutes if they have any production experience
Creative Editor seems to be a thing now too. 🤷🏻♀️
I take it to mean they don’t manage anything tech
^savage yet accurate
Are there agencies that have creative producers and other types of producers (besides maybe EPs)? I've only seen that title used by small shops - and in those cases all the producers have that title, which leads me to believe it's just a face thing to a) attract people to the job because it makes them feel like they'll have a say in creative things and b) perhaps to send some sort of vibe that the company prioritizes creative. Either way it doesn't seem to change the role. Coming from a background in narratives and music videos, creative producer is something producers would call themselves on their websites and business cards to try to show people that they're not just suits. Which I think is bs...
BS not meaning that producers aren't more than suits, BS meaning it's something that they'd call themselves but doesn't change the job description
😂
