Now that many are returning to classrooms, does it worry anyone that thousands are coming into the country after testing positive for Covid and not even being quarantined or detained?

I’m more worried about the ‘Mericans who selfishly refuse to follow COVID guidelines. I am more worried about media that spreads conspiracies, disinformation, and resentment. I worry about the children whose teachers will see them as less than fully human b/c their country of origin. Or perceived as other than fully American. Immigrants are, above all human beings fleeing horrific conditions. As a nation, I pray we do better before WW2, and the last 4 years.

The media hasn’t really spread any stories about the immigration facilities because the media has been banned from the facilities which has never happened in the past. The videos and stories by border patrol that have come out are apalling.. Children are being forced to lie on the floor with tinfoil blankets and not enough food or clean water. Many have not been able to bathe at all. One facility in Texas which was built to hold 200 has 6000 in it. Your comment about treating kids as less than human because they are immigrants does not even hold a modicum of truth. That sounds just like a typical lie that liberals make up. If you have any instance at all of this happening anywhere anytime I will listen. You’re probably one of the people who cried out against the former administration keeping children in cages and put up the picture of kids and facilities from a completely different administration claiming it was current. We all need to be concerned with solutions and not just spreading more just information as you have here.

I worry more about spring breakers & other vacationers - Those are the people I'm more likely to interact with.

In response to California HS, the far left is spreading propaganda and doing everything possible to silence those that will not comply with their increasingly tyrannical dictates. We are a nation of laws. Legal immigration is rational and lawful. Open borders is not. The Federal Government is violating it’s responsibility to protect our borders.

like

We had two mass shootings in a week. Multiple states have dropped their precautions. New variants are gaining traction. People are acting stupidly on spring break. So no. Xenophobia is not really a big issue with me.

The leftist propaganda does not tolerate dissent. Marginalize and silence those that don’t go along with their message. Apparently you have no problem with that.

Your narrative mentions people in "the facilities" but also people "not even being detained". That doesn't really work.

Minors are being put in facilities that do not meet even basic human rights due to overcrowding, lack of security....and....we have a 'man camp' that has been turned in to a detention facility for unaccompanied minors (12-17 year old males) that does not even have potable (drinkable) water and it is not recommended that they even bathe in that water. How is that humane? Is this why the current administration is denying access?

It sure does.

I have caught covid twice the first time was rough but the second time was nothing and I'm on the high risk category. So covid doesn't scare me at all.

uplifting

It’s scary. There’s going to be another surge, because of this.

I live right on the border. I go through a Border Patrol checkpoint every day on the way to school. There is nothing I can do about any of it. I just try to get to school every day and take care of my kids. Get your shot if you can, it will give you some piece of mind. They did teachers here starting in January. I am seven or eight weeks out from my second shot and have had no problems.

Thousands coming from where? Can you be more specific? People come into our country everyday.

smart

I’m fully vaccinated, but I am concerned Ed about my friends, family and students who are not.

Are they entering legally? If not, how can we gather reliable statistics on the matter? Use common sense.

Yes, common sense dictates some of those entering the country will be positive. I was responding to the original poster who stated thousands are entering the country after testing positive. Don’t throw out random statistics if you don’t have any evidence.

Absolutely beyond scared

I’m more worried about the fact that there are so many kids being trafficked in, that this state is searching for foster families to take 26+ kids (FACT)! That’s way scarier to me than Covid - and I’m an at-risk teacher.

Confirming that range of estimates from the association is outside the scope of this fact check. There were 479 positive cases among detainees in the custody of U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as of March 12, 2021, out of the total 14,051 people detained, according to the agency’s latest statistics. ICE arrests and detains people who may have entered the country legally, but then broken the law or are foreign fugitives. The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol does not publish COVID-19 statistics for immigrants (www.ice.gov/coronavirus, here).

So I've seen a number of articles floating around recently saying all Americans (not just the priority groups) could get the covid-19 vaccines by April. Thoughts on whether that is actually highly likely? I initially thought end of 2021 was more likely, but perhaps I should be more optimistic?

Has anyone had the conversation on how we get Ss and Ts ready for returning in the fall? I’m not talking about mask usage, hand washing times, physical distancing in classrooms, etc. I don’t think we can expect Ts and Ss to come back and just hop right into academics. Need sometime to process together, get some SEL, be face to face social again, etc. Just wondering if districts out there have gotten a head start on this task.

I started working in a agency two months ago, and I have two very big projects running simultaneously. My Creative Director left for paternity leave, and left me with all the work, facing the client, going to shootings, editing. I've been working 15 days straight, no weekends. The agency hasn't given me any back up/someone I can team up with to do the job. Is this normal? I'm used to have a partner, a copywriter or another creative working alongside. Keep in mind that I'm mid-level.

I am due to take 2 weeks parental leave sometime in the next month and have an offer lined up. Is it better to tell the new place I would prefer to push my start date to take my leave and join two weeks after (accounting for 2 weeks of notice when I get back)? Would that be burning a bridge with current firm (taking leave and giving notice as soon as I am back)? I want to avoid losing 2 weeks of salary during that time if I can.

My firm has a reduced hours policy, and I know people who have negotiated reduced hours after having kids. I do not have kids yet (we recently started trying), but I’m seriously considering asking for a reduced hours arrangement (partly for future kids, but partly for sustainability of the career, mental health, physical health, etc.). The written policy doesn’t require it, but do I have to give a “reason” when asking for reduced hours? Anyone have experience with this?

Since George Floyd's murder and the sudden Corporate America "wokeness," I (black guy) have been routinely contacted by unacquainted Partners who explicitly state something to the effect "Client X wants diversity, so we'd like you on this deal..." It really comes across as tone deaf and completely patronizing. I appreciate the efforts to diversity (albeit forced), but Partners really need to learn how to not be so supercilious in the approach. You don't have to overtly state that I'm the quota.
