It doesn’t matter what the CDC says. States will make their own decisions. Many will continue to require masks. My kids are in elementary school and have been playing sports for months. They’ve also had play dates — mostly outside but some inside too. I haven’t decided if I’ll have them vaccinated but I’m leaning towards not.

COVID is a big deal. We lost a few family members to it. Flu hasn’t taken anyone I know out. I am also on the fence about getting my child vaccinated. We are starting to do and go places gradually and we wear our masks. We are gradually seeing family members and will do a birthday party outdoor. Everyone in my household is vaccinated except my child. We just don’t have the data to make an educated decision right now.

like

I will basically be keeping my 2 yo with a masks and my husband and I will be wearing masks anytime we are indoors or in close contact with people we don’t know. Evidence is showing you can still possibly carry it even if you are vaccinated and the variants have been far more dangerous for children. I will stay in a mask to keep her healthy until i feel confident to get her vaccinated. The vaccines are based upon how other vaccines work so I am not worried about some long term affect if it is approved for her age group. Just because others won’t mask up if they haven’t been vaccinated, doesn’t mean my family can’t keep on wearing them and staying a safe distance away from people.

I agree! Vaccinated people can still catch the virus and pass it to the kids. I’m not putting my kids at risk.

like

Also true. I was thinking more about unvaccinated people lying about being vaccinated. I guess I’ll just have to give the kids the general explanation of we have to give extra space to anybody we don’t know, to be sure we aren’t sharing germs. I was thinking this summer maybe we’d go to more restaurants and such, but now I’m a bit more worried.

like

Yep. Kids go back to being isolated because its the only way to keep them safe until there is a vaccine option for them. It is very disheartening the way our children have been disregarded. Its nice to see the "I got mine, screw everyone else" mentality is alive and well on the left side of the aisle just as much as the right.

like

My thoughts exactly! How do I explain to my kid she has to keep wearing a mask when most adults won't be. Makes no sense

like

I don’t even know where to begin to train my son to wear a mask next month.

Also remember when the CDC first told us not to wear masks, and then changed its guidance?

like

Well, exactly that’s my point - political pressure is prioritized over public health

like

Agree! The honor system doesn’t work for me. I hope places keep requiring masks and enforcing it.

Do you have your kids wear masks during flu season? At this point the flu is riskier to kids than covid.

Do we know for certain vaccinated people don’t spread Covid? Thought the CDC said yes then retracted the statement says later. Also, what about the vaccinated doctors in India dying from variants? The variant has already been detected in the US.

I live in Singapore, we are having a second wave here and it is predominantly folks vaccinated with two shots of Pfizer. So it can definitely be transmitted.

I’ve had to explain to my 6yo that even though the governor says we don’t need masks, we will continue to where them for our safety. I explained that it’s ok to be different. She understands and she’s fine. You’re right, some people will lie. Do what you know will keep your kids safe.

like

I was very disappointed because I believe the same people who didn’t want to wear masks are the same people who don’t want to be vaccinated. We have been vaccinated (children too young though) but will continue wearing masks. We won’t be getting rid of our masks for quite some time.

like

Yep 😔

like

Yes, I agree. I feel like either this news from the CDC makes no sense OR there is something about covid that we’ve been lied to about. How else does it make sense to start having everyone crowd into concerts, with no masks, with variants on the rise? How am I supposed to take my 2 year old to target when ppl will be maskless all over her? And my understanding was that the mask keeps your germs to you. It doesn’t do as much to protect you from other peoples germs. So forcing her to wear a mask is only marginally helping her safety.

like

Marginally helping her safety... potentially REALLY slowing other areas of development, like speech. I’m reminded of that every time I see my 18 month old really watching adults mouths to see how they make sounds.... an the confusion on his face when masked strangers try to engage him when we are out and about,

Is anyone else now considering NOT sending their kids to summer camp because of the possible exposure to non-vaccinated, maskless people posing as vaccinated just so they don't have to wear a mask?

like

I know our camp will require masks no matter what. Also they will mostly be with kids who need a mask, there's not a large amount of unauthorized adults around camps usually

Now there’s lots of examples of states who have lifted their mask mandates and the numbers are extremely low and still progressing down. I feel my kids are as safe as they were before the pandemic in public. Local schools even lifted mask requirements and it has resulted in no new cases. So our opinion it’s fine to have our unvaccinated kiddos in public at this time.

Vaccinated or not as for me and my house we will continue wearing our mask and practice social distancing. Both of my parents are vaccinated and they still wear their mask.

Does anyone have any thoughts about a company terminating an employee within the HR team for testing positive for COVID 19 and further accusing the said employee of being the one that created the entire team to become infected by not answering the health screening questions accurately? The week prior to employee being tested the entire team was in the office sick.
