Anyone try 23andMe?
I was laid off during Deloitte‘s mass layoff in July of last year. I have worked as an independent contractor since and projects haven’t been consistent at the client I’m working for. I’m looking to get back into a big firm and was seeing if anyone would be able to refer me or help get my foot in the door. I was a business analyst for 1.5 years at Deloitte and have several years of additional experience which I’d be more than happy to share.

Whatever fits and feels good for boots. There's no substitute for going to a good ski shop and having a pro fit you, heat mold, and tweak to perfect the fit.
Highly recommend renting skis. There's no reason to buy as a new beginner.
I would go with him to get them. He needs to try them on, making sure ski boots fit well is super important.
Former competitor on Freeride world tour here. You absolutely need to go to a professional boot fitter (any specialty ski shop will have one). Tell them you’re a beginner, and they’ll fit you for a beginner level boot (generally more flexible than average). Proper fit > everything else. I also think better to spend a bit less on boots and spend extra on the boot fitter “blowing out” the boot to have it fit your foot perfectly and ease sore spots.
In terms of Skis get used/demos/last seasons. You don’t need brand new ones
Ugh even more.
I went to Verbier in Jan 2014 and the conditions were absolute garbage - like very end of season. Had a trip to Hakuba planned for March of this year, staying at the base of Cortina and had that canceled due to COVID.
If you’re getting skis, definitely get used ones. A lot of ski shops sell used gear that they’ve previously rented. For boots, you can find decent boots under $300. Check Salomon, K2, Scott, Lange.
