6th year of practice. I need to get out of insurance defense. Probably would prefer to be out of litigation in general. I also need to get out of south Florida/Florida in general because my salary is not great compared to the high cost of living in my city and I haven’t been able to find any other reasonable paying job. Any national security lawyers on here? What are the billables and what are you generally doing? Is it essentially gov’t relations and researching/drafting opinion letters or is there more to it?

I just got offered a job with a firm that has billable hour requirements. I’ve never had had billable hours. Is is appropriate to ask what the billable requirements are? I have a good idea from someone I know who works in a different department but want to confirm what they told me. They also provided vacation time of 3-5 weeks. I’m assuming that’s work weeks, but is that appropriate to ask for clarification? I don’t want them to think that’s all I care about, but these are important to me.
