I have very rarely felt uncomfortable in Manhattan. That being said, you do need to be aware of your surroundings, but this is true for all times of the day.
I’ve worked places that have Uber/Lyft accounts available for us when we are working after certain hours. It might be worth checking to see if something like that would be available to you.

24f i leave at all hours. Literally 3 am from my office, there are always people out. You never feel alone. Just use normal common safety sense. Sometimes if it’s a weird vibe I’ll call a friend for a chat or just take my headphones off

Even in the sketchy areas there are always women and kids walking around randomly. You’re never (not in my experience) surrounded by a ton of men walking down a dark street alone. Just be smart when it comes to going down questionable dark side roads at weird hours
10 or 11 is really not that late here at all. Most corporate jobs here have expense policies to cover cars home from the office if you leave after a certain time (usually 8 or 9, in my exp.) but even if you wanna subway or bus home then, there’ll still be plenty of folks around. Most of my friends have historically taken the car anyway just bc it’s convenient.
I’ve lived in Baltimore, DC, SF, and London and NYC has always felt quite safe to me especially compared to say, SF, where the city can be super empty in certain areas after 5pm.
Also, if you move here for a corporate job in midtown you can likely afford rent at one of the luxury buildings in midtown or UWS/UES so your commute wouldn’t be long at all!
I’ve lived here for a dozen+ years, most of my 20s and into my 30s. Like SOM1 said, I rarely have felt unsafe. Also agree to check with the company on late night transportation.
As with any city, I’d recommend you stay aware of your surroundings and know where you are. If you ever feel slightly worried just grab a cab. It’s worth the cash.
In general NYC is extremely safe, even with the recent uptick. I’ve found the news in other parts of the country makes it seem very scary.

Depends on the neighborhood. Pre-covid I felt really safe walking at night in most parts of the city. Post covid I am more careful because the streets and subway are deserted. Pick a good neighborhood like midtown East, UWS below 100th street, or the village around NYU. Avoid the Bronx or Midtown West.
All about the neighborhood you're in.

Depends where you live! I’m pretty nervous about this (petite 26F who was stalked) but have felt comfortable in the UWS on one of the more populated streets (not near Riverside which is often dead). I stick to certain paths and take a cab if it gets past 11 though. There are usually people until midnight out in most neighborhoods. I wouldn’t worry!
Second UWS+ live close to the subway stop. I have a good rec, DM if you’d like :)
Agree with above, haven’t felt unsafe, corporate car policies, etc. Enjoyed living in Chelsea. Walking distance to midtown and places to play, south.
Additionally the basic scenes of NY (if you’re less familiar with cities can seem scary). Not everything is shiny. A bit of grit to flat out trash. When my mom visits and we come across unhoused people on quieter streets between busier avenues, it’s a scene she just has no experience with so it’s unnerving for her.
Just stay aware, know the streets you feel comfortable in. Good luck!

Where are you working and where do you live?

Pre covid it would’ve been fine just due to the sheer amount of people even at that hour. During covid it’s not safe. Way too many mentally unstable people around and no cops or crowds. Women and elderly Asian people have been the most recent targets for random attacks, robberies and groping.

Not sure if yours does but many companies offer free Uber rides home if leaving the office past a certain hour.
10/11pm is early in NYC
23F regularly take walks at that hour and have never felt unsafe, there are always so many people out and about; I do imagine it depends on the area though (I’m in Gramercy)
Midtown is great, get a place in Midtown East . More affordable, safe, fun, close to everything.
See if your company will expense rides home after 10 hours of work. also possible to use your commuter benefits on Uber/Lyft if you have them
