QUEENS. Most underrated borough coming from a native nyc’er. You can have your lawn and quiet street and be close to amazing food and still near a subway. Do it before all the amazon people ruin it forever

Depends on how far you’re willing to commute. Maplewood NJ is quiet, slow-paced and popular amongst former Manhattanites and Brooklynites but you’re looking at an hour minimum door to door. Jersey City is not quiet or slow-paced but has areas where you can still get a lot of space for your money and have a 30-minute commute.

If LA is of interest to you, it was a great place to grow up. It’s suburban sprawl with real culture and real diversity so you get the best of both worlds, plus beaches, mountains, and desert all within a couple of hours.

Commuting from the burbs in the NYC area is really bad. The infrastructure is breaking down and only getting worse. I would look at other city options.

Minneapolis and boulder/denver if you can handle cold. There are still some suburban options around SF that would be a shorter (with less traffic) drive than NY burbs. Austin. Portland, OR. Miami.

like

Just don’t pick Austin. The entire state of California seems to be slowly migrating there and that’s about all Austin can handle.

About to head to Tarrytown/Irvington. Express stop on the Metro North (38 mins), great schools, actual theaters / good restaurants / some culture. Not cheap (the taxes!!) but good for people who want space without feeling like they’ve given up on life

like

West Chester. Only the commute to grand central avoidsborh penn station or port authority.

like

Make sure you are very close to good trains. Metro North and Hudson lines are the best and go into Grand Central and quite reliable. Cold Spring and Brewster are options in Putnam County that have more space and good trains and shopping. Brewster lower property taxes, decent school being in Putnam County but you get all of Westchester and CT next door.

like

Bestchester! Cold Spring is far, though. I think I’d struggle to handle anything further north than White Plains. (I have 2 kids and a 4 bedroom house with a yard)

like

Long Island City is where is at for families that want to stay close to the city but far enough where they can have peace and quiet.

Hi all, happy new year! I'm considering an industry offer versus a technology consulting firm. The former is a bit higher TC ~$15k. Both are comparable culture wise somewhat; the teams have great coworkers; and the work would be interesting to me. My gut feeling tells me to go with the latter as I might narrow myself a lot. I'm seeking any reasons/factors you fish can suggest to corroborate that. I like both stability and novelty, slowness and speed; I'm flexible so becomes a bit tricky lol!

It seems there’s a large group of Indian men on this app, can someone enlighten me as to WHY Indian men have such hang ups with race? TYIA
