I gave up a PSU job in IOCL in for IIT MTech so that later I can do a high paying job. I'm glad I took that call. Papa generation are from a completely different era, which is totally different from current world. Those rules do not apply here now. E.g. Back then, stock market was as good as gamble, nowadays stock market investment is a must. Similary, I feel government jobs are a waste of life. Unless maybe IAS, even only a few of them, are worth flr the job. Others are just a waste of a salary and tax payers money. And also, you never know if government privatises things in the future. This is the direction Modi has already taken. Air India done, BSNL on the way and so on.
Ek aur baat, take a decision that YOU will not regret later. Bhot dekhe hai maine jo parents ko khush karne ke liye apni zindagi barbaad karlete hai, fir rote hai. Teri life hai, tujhe jini hai. Parents have best interest in mind, but they are not always right because their time was different.
Mujhe bhi bolte the IAS kar. Mujhe pata that IAS is a gamble of an exam. Nahi hua to life barbaad. Private mei options bhot hai. Aaj package achcha hai.
Papa ko manaa ki jaise 3 idiots ke Farhaan ne manaaya. Aur firbhi nahi maane to IT walo ke package dikha de. Aajkal bachcho ko bhi bhot paisa milta hai.
P.S. Indian parents have a tendency of controlling kids lives. No offence intended, but they want their kids to follow a template of "ideal" lives. Settle ho, bachche karo, emi pe ghar aur car lo. Zindagi bhar emi bharo, bachcho ko padhao, fir mar jao. Yahi karna hai to bhai lele sarkaari job. Mai to ghut ke hi mar jata aisi life mei.
I accept the point that indian parents get easily offended and disappointed even if we do one thing out of their approval. But once the things turn good they’ll eventually come around.
I'm also from Jaipur. My story is same like yours. Bcoz of family pressure, I could not move out of Jaipur. Jaipur mein hi reh ke I had to work in BPOs. Even with the experience of 7 years, I had a ctc of 4.2 as an assistant manager in a BPO.
Due to pandemic, companies started offering WFH so I applied in MNCs outside Jaipur and got a package of 9.5 LPA with overall experience of 10 years. BPO jobs were so hectic that I could not get time to learn new skills and I was just stuck with customer support. Governement job ke liye I didn't prepare because their syllabus is utter crap. GK rato, Current affairs rato, history geography rato aur bakwas ki cheezein rato. And I am from General category so I already knew ki kuchh hona jana hai nahi govt exams mein, but still I tried and appeared for Informatics Assistant and Computer Instructor and because of GK and Minus marking, I could not quality just because of a few marks (general ki cut off high jaati hai)
So papa ko samjhao ki if he would let you go outside, you can earn more. Govt job ke liye prepare karna is completely time waste. Ya agar rattamaar vidya mein achhe ho to saara din Ratta maarte raho, crack kar loge govt exams. Private mein skills and experience ke according bahut paise hain, jitni ctc govt employee ki retirement ke time hogi, utni tum 5 to 7 years mein private mein kama sakte ho.
He is right.
Tu kr le bhai
Listen up!!
Private: you will have to relocate in order to survive in the industry, now or later. Connections are essential. Additionally, You'll have to stay on top of everything, new tech, new skills etc.
Government: Get one, free for life. Tension free and stress. However, you'll get bored after a certain point in time. You'll be getting zero utility out of your job.

Shift. And buy him a car in the next couple of years.
bhai do what you love.. and as about the gov job it's not as fruitful as it was before.. ab private job is better then gov job as here you'll get good package atleast which will lead to better lifestyle. But everything comes at cost and here you've to stay updated and competitive throughout the carrer.
That's true, i also like programming
Main reason to opt for government job is job security, less stress and pension for after retirement. But as we ask people who are recently retired, pension is not there anymore, there is half or more amount of stress (in many positions not all) is there even in government job these days, job security is still there.
Finally, if you are someone who is sincere to your job and want a job with minimal politics dont opt for government job

They are saying that because of job security once you will become financially independent and earn good amount of money with making good investment he will understand it.
Some of the people I know who were doing govt job left it or going to leave it for their MS or joining some pvt company.
One was working in ONGC left it because of no growth and due to monotonous life. Went for masters in abroad.
Another one working in COAL India also left because of the same reason no work, no city life(living in a small town), no learning and growth.
2 more left their core job for MBA because of the same.
The point is do what you can do forever, where you will find more opportunities and hence more choices.
Just gonna give my two cents here - go for what you don't want to miss out on. Life is too short for regrets. Don't settle just because your parents want you to, settle down when you are comfortable with it. But before that, go chase your wildest dreams and make them a reality. All the best 👍
So i have a friend who is class 2 officer in a govt firm, started his job 2 years after I started.
Owns a duplex house. But stays in govt house and kept it on rent.
Owns some plots in the same area.
A car.
A driver and a fulltime servant.
No loans.
People run after him doing sir sir wherever he goes.
Me :
Most of the properties are above my budget in bangalore.
Own One small plot in my hometown which is worth 4 lakhs.
Lost some money in crypto.
Even Ola uber drivers deny coming to pick me up.
Yes life is dynamic but it's because I am always worried about saving my job.
His life is dynamic too, he's always busy trying to find ways to hide his black money.
So choose wisely.

Sahi bol rhe hain bhai wo...abhi bhi time hai kr lo preparation....IT mein to kabhi bhi skills upgrade karke aa sakte ho ....but government job mein nahi
I will say only one point in private job if you don't like your manager you can atleast switch to a new job anytime at any age, In govt job you have to stay at the same place with same Senior or head in the Job unless you are an IAS IPS or at some high paying job.
Parents think good for us always but since unko IT ka itna idea nhi islie Aisa bole so don't mind him
Unko btao ki agr Government m aake fas gaya toh ye dikkat hongi and Private mein ye fayada hai aur interest bhi hai. Once he get the knowledge and your perception he will understand.
Bhai krle govt job baad ka dukh nae rahega
Bro, you are a grown up man. Do what makes you happy. You cannot make older generation parents happy. For them what Sharmaji ka ladka does is the best job in the world.
